We had booked 2 junior suites at the royal San Marco for 4 nights, we found this hotel just fine, modern day google maps makes this very easy. On arrival we were upgraded to their executive suites which in reality is like an apartment with...More
The hotel is literally just off San Marco square, couldn't ask for a better location. The room itself was in very good condition, beautifully decorated and very big! Breakfast was what I expected from a continental in Europe and the staff were very helpful and...More

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
How do you get to the hotel from the Santa Lucia train station? I cannot walk far, so short walking is best.

Our family took a water taxi to St. Mark's Square. The water taxi drops you off at the taxi stand and you will have to walk from there to the hotel. Maybe a 5 minute walk? Bikes/cars are not allowed on the island so you will have to walk everywhere. You can take a waterbus or water taxi to different islands around Venice.
