We opted for a 2 bedroom suite for 6 adults. The room was very spacious and had 2 bathrooms! Like other hotels in Venice, the room is victorian style, which I don't particularly care for, but it was clean nonetheless. Great location just seconds from...More

The hotel was really good, and perfectly placed for St Mark's Square. The only gripe I would have is over finding the bloomin' place - all we had was an address, which is NOT the address for reception.
You need to look for Hotel Royal...More

DO NOT TAKE the Murano glass factory tour that the hotel offers you. Even though it's free, once they get you over there on a water taxi, they have a salesperson meet you at the dock, take you for a tour, and they never leave...More
The hotel is in a great location. A few problems we had: AC did not work. Our suite was very hot and technician came a few times and couldn't fix. We need to go earlier to a tour and the breakfast area would not accommodate...More

Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Our family took a water taxi to St. Mark's Square. The water taxi drops you off at the taxi stand and you will have to walk from there to the hotel. Maybe a 5 minute walk? Bikes/cars are not allowed on the island so you will have to walk everywhere. You can take a waterbus or water taxi to different islands around Venice.
