We have just stayed for 4 nights and, for the money, you can't go wrong! Location wise, it's a 5 minute walk from the bus station, a real bonus as there are only 2 bridges to cross! Our room was small yet perfectly formed with an en-suite toilet and shower. Good access to the rest of Venice with the Rialto...

The location for Casa Peron is perfect. An easy walk from the train station or Piazza Roma. Many good restaurants and bars/cafes nearby. Our room was clean and nicely furnished. The owners were helpful and friendly.

We chose this hotel because it was firstly in San Polo, which meant it was close to two of the highlights of our trip in San Rocco and the Frari which were within a 5 minute walk from the hotel, The San Polo location also allowed us a very easy walk to the Train station in the morning for our...

The Casa Peron is centrally located in the San Polo area, 6 minutes from Piazzale Roma, 5 from the San Tomá vaporetto stop. Lots of restaurants, cafés etc close by. It's a traditional 3-storey house, with steep stairs. And, for my room on the 3rd floor, a complete fire-trap. The room was very adequate, south-facing across the narrow Salizzada, with...

The location was better than the rooms, but for the price this was a solid choice. The breakfast was a meager continental offering, but I have not been to a hotel in Italy where that was not the case.

PROS: The location was great, the staff helped us book our train tickets, gave us guides on where to go, what bus to catch. The area was safe and the staff even gave us details on how to self-check in as we arrived very late. CONS: The walls are TOO thin, they have no curtains, the room is very basic...

Absolutely brilliant long weekend with my boyfriend. The perfect location. Close to a lovely square selling fruit/ veg and a fab variety of restaurants, perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Comfortable bed and spacious double room with a private bathroom and air conditioning. Owners spoke good English and were very helpful. They were happy to keep hold of our bags...

We stayed here for three nights in May 2016. This was the priciest of the hotels during our Italian trip but turned out to be the worst place. We expected something better but this place is very basic. There are no toiletries provided for this price , only a hand wash. Very basic rooms and readymade breakfast, which is just...

We stayed at this hotel for three nights at the end of April. We'd booked a double room with a private bathroom and that's what we got. The room was large and had a good sized wardrobe, mirror and desk area. The bathroom was good and everything worked as it should. Towels were provided and the free wifi worked well....

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
