My friend and I found this place online and booked everything via email. The manager/owner was very accomodating and even talked to us on her cell phone when we got lost coming into town at 11:00 at night!! The place was in a great location, was very clean and the breakfast in the room was fantastic! Next time I go...

This is a little B&B on the 'happening' island in Venice. We were within a reasonable distance to San Marco Square (20 minutes), but the water bus is available and that's about 15 minutes to San Marco. Several restaurants are within an easy short walk. Our room was small but very clean. The first night the airconditioning wasn't on and...

Just returned after a three night stay. First, the good point. It is perfectly located in a quiet backwater, but the bar opposite is popular with locals, so if you have aroom facing the street, keep the windows shut at night. Now the disappointments. The room was only OK and not worth 170 euros a night. Having visited Venice many...

We just returned from a four day stay at Casa alla Fenice and found it a really great stay. Our room was quiet and the windows to the street sound proofed the room when closed. We had no troubles with noise, but be advised, Venice is a noisy city. It is a terrific location, very central and a steal for...

The hotel is well located and the breakfast is good. Our room was well presented and as shown in the pictures. However, there are a couple of issues. Firstly the sound proofing of the room is poor, it's possible to here people coming up the stairs and the entrance buzzer. Which when people are arriving at 2am in the morning...

We stayed for three nights at Casa alla Fenice in January. Found the hotel to be in a very central location although a little difficult to find as the book shop they describe in the directions seems to be closed on a Sunday. However, when we got there, we were taken to our room, Casanova room. The room was very...

I contacted Casa Alla Fenice on a whim shortly before our trip to Italy after finding its website (casaallafenice.com). We had reservations at another location, but I thought their location and their rooms were wonderful. We were lucky enough to get their cupid room and we were not disappointed! The location was easy to find by following the directions on...

We were late in booking our room and so we stayed in the smallest room. However, it was impeccably clean and so convenient. I felt as if I really lived in Venice for four days. The owner and other staff were SO helpful. We have already reccommended it to our friends and I will definitely stay on our return visit...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
