I travelled last week for business. In the high season it was almost impossible to find a decent lodging with reasonable price. Thanks to Tripadvisor reviews, I opted for Locanda Salieri and it was a perfect pick. Located in the vicinity of Piazzale Roma - transport hub of Venice, literary stone a way from the bus terminals and vaporetto stations,...

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights after finishing a cruise in Venice. The journey from the cruise terminal was tricky only because we had too much luggage... Hotel was just off the main transport hub for Venice, Pizzale Roma where you can get everywhere from and get back too easily... It was actually in a quiet little backwater which...

The hotel is in a great location and clean!! The staff was so kind.. the breakfast was good! You can find a lot of shops and restaurants near to the hotel. The negative is there is no elevator and you can hear all the noise from it's room..

This hotel was in a wonderful location (near the train station and Piazza di Roma) for a reasonable price. The host was accommodating and had a supply of guidebooks to borrow. My only complaint was that the air conditioning did not work too well.

This hotel was perfectly located in the Piazzale Roma area. We took the city bus from the airport to the Piazzale Roma stop, and walked less than 5 minutes to the hotel. The room was not fancy, but was clean and comfortable, especially for the price. The owner (Luca?) was very helpful and also works the restaurant next door. We...

This small, comfortable hotel was in a perfect location. Within easy walking distance of the train station and PIe Roma vaporetti stop, we still felt like we were away from the bustle of San Marco and other more 'touristy' areas of Venice. It was fun to explore the charming sestierres of Santa Croce, San Polo and Dorsoduro on foot from...

Husband and I enjoyed our stay on our recent trip to Venice. It suited our needs perfectly, it was a short walk from the train station/bus stop, and was within walking distance to all of the other major sites. It was a small hotel, only 12 rooms, and we stayed in room 7 with a view of the small canal...

perfect location - close to pl. Roma. Easy to access from the airport, railway station. Located in Sesttiere Santa Croche, far from the crowd and closer to the locals. Very clean. Nice Breakfast. Very nice staff members. Just a short walk everywhere includes the Voperato (Water bus). Nice wine bars and restaurants near by. I recommend this nice family hotel...

It's always a pleasure to visit this tourist friendly city with its numerous canals and passageways. On this visit I decided to stay at the friendly family owned hotel - Locanda Salieri. Many reviews complement this convenient situated hotel just 5 minutes walk from the Piazzale Roma. Just remember to walk over to the public gardens (Papadopoli) which should be...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
