We stayed in the Conservatory room for two nights. It was the largest room and bathroom, with the most comfortable bed, in our 21 day stay in Italy. This being said we did experience some communication problems with Christian the host. This place could be great if there was a staff person available for at least an 8hr period per...

My fiancee and I stayed at Ca' Satriano in May of 2004 for 4 nights. We stayed in the Masks room directly off the breakfast area. We were very happy with the cleanliness, value, and location. It was beautiful to wake up in the morning and see the canal right outside our window. We could hear musicians practice and see...

My husband and I stayed here recently and occupied the Mermaid room. This was very clean & comfortable with a very large bed, TV, plenty of wardrobe space and a very spacious bathroom with jacuzzi, bidet, shower and Loo and fresh towels every morning. However, the breakfast room is very small and one of the bedrooms,The Mask, the smallest of the...

Ca Satriano is worth finding. It is very central and for the price is excellent value for money. It is nicely decorated and clean. We stayed in the Conservatoire Room for a week - across the canal from the Music Conservatoire. Christian who looks after the place and prepares breakfast is very nice and very efficient. For 130 Euros a...

What a fun, charming little place. We stayed in the Mask Room, and it was perfect. We were right on a canal and the location was ideal. Not too close to all the madness, but a 2 min walk to St. Mark's Square. The man who prepared our breakfast each morning was really nice. This place was a prize for...

This place was perfect. Venice was our first stop on a 2 week long trip of Italy in June 2004. We prefer to stay in smaller, family owned places and this fit the bill. It was located off of Campo San Maurizio which is very close to San Marco square, Academia Bridge and vaperetto stops- yet far away enough to...

I stumbled across this property while searching the internet for a reasonably priced hotel in Venice. Of course this statement is an oxymoron - reasonable price and Venice do not go together in the same sentence. One of the problems we encountered was our requirement for a hotel for only one night which happened to be a Friday in April....

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
