Venice is a wonderful, charming and unforgettable. Our stay in this hotel the visit has become even more pleasant. First we start with people, Guido & Riccardo escorted us with recommendations and instructions from the invitation and during all the visit, really like we were friends. They helped with explanations of how to get from the airport to the hotel,...

Went there with my wife for a 3 day stay to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. It is rather small hotel, tugged away in the centre of Venice's old town. The rooms were nice, traditionally decorated, air conditioned and you could directly feel at home. The two owners are very friendly and helpful. Would got there again. Breakfast was traditional...

After a long time of looking online to find somewhere to stay in Venice that was in a good location and wasn't going to cost the earth, I finally found Lanterna di Marco Polo. Yes, it was still expensive but name something in Venice that isn't! It was worth the money though. The location was perfect, only a very short...

We booked this hotel due to it's location and good online reviews and we were not disappointed. We had a last minute changed in our arrival time and they graciously accommodated us by providing all the necessary information on how to get in the hotel and room. The next morning we received a warm welcome from Ricardo who provided us...

As mentioned by almost all reviewers this hotel is very well located, right in the middle of Venice. The building is old and quite cramped, but has a lot of character. The rooms were ok - nothing special in terms of decor , but in fairness there are limitations with a building of this age. Breakfast was ok (below average...

Excellent hotel for exploring Venice by foot (or boat). The hotel is very charming, the room was big and clean. It had everything one could need, all in good order. The owner of the hotel Guido was super nice and helpful. Immediately after booking the hotel, I got an email from the owners indicating the easiest way to get to...

Well it was authentic alright, doesn't seem like its been re decorated or cleaned since it was built. I get the historic worth of the hotel, but really.....you can replace curtains and bedding, re vamp the bathroom keeping the integrity. The lady on reception was rather rude too. and please beware of the city tax they don't not explain until...

Our travel agent recommended this B & B to us based on its convenient location and reasonable price, and we were not disappointed. We booked two rooms, for us and our daughters, and requested lower level floors. The staircase is narrow and a bit steep, so we had to be careful. The rooms had a quaint old-world charm, the bathroom...

We were so lucky to have found this delightful place so close to everything in venice just near Rialto bridge((drop off point when arriving by boat from the bus)& leaving for the airport. Also just around the cnr from San Marco square. We were here in the heatwave and I'm sure, this place had the best a/con! We were given...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
