Positives: Spacious room, beautifully decorated in classic Venetian style, with padded walls and matching bedsheets and curtains. In-room breakfasts were fresh and plentiful. Bathroom was decently sized and fully kitted. Hotel was in a Perfect Location Negatives: Lift doesn't start from ground floor only from first floor where reception is & it doesn't operate after 7pm when staff leave! There...

The Piazza San Marco what do you find yourself walking through several times as you go from one part of Venice to another. As you walk up and down the bridges on your way to the Piazza San Marco we will see Venice the way it should be seen. I always choose places to meet my friends on the way...

I had erroneously booked this hotel in February for a stay mid-August. I had tried to speak with the hotel to see if they would consider a refund or a partial refund (Acknowledging full well that they penalize you for cancelling - this I admit was my mistake). Person on the phone said he would speak with the manager. Notwithstanding...

Awful stay at this hotel, after paying over £200 a night, I was appalled at the lack of organisation and care given towards checking in and checking out, after spending around 1hr trying to find this hotel, noone was at the hotel when we arrived as it was past 7pm, so we were told to ring the bell, of course...

It's certainly should be an awe- inspiring and atmospheric space. However, We got there mid afternoon , smack bang in the crush of crowds which spoil the vibes a bit- no, a lot. And then there is the cringe-worthy music emanating from not 1, but 2 restaurants on the edge of the square. We did a tour of the doge's...

We stayed here for 3 nights. Hotel is ok. Not your typical European hotel in that the bathroom is spacious and the shower can be fully closed! Beware though! We arrived at 11:00PM. There was note on the door that receptionist is only available till 7PM and to ring the bell for assistance....but the bell is out of order that...

We should have gone deeper into the reviews, our fault. Might have been nice in it's day, but that was long ago. Management obviously doesn't care about ratings as the same issues still exist from previous reviews. From the moment you walk in the door you will realize you made a huge mistake. Shabby carpet up stairs to more shabby...

The location of this hotel is amazing. It is literally steps away from St Mark's Square. It's down a tiny alley way and easy to walk past. The staff were friendly and although it could do with some new carpet on the stairs, our actual rom was lovely. It's decorated in a very Venetian style and was very spacious. The...

The location is the best part of our stays. Like other reviews, we were not in the main building but across the street and up 2 flights of stairs. Room 54 could use a new bed for sure with a 2 inch spring sticking up in the centre. They could use new bedding as ours was torn - but it...

A very small and quaint hotel. Decor in our room was in perfect Venetian style. We had room service for breakfast included in our package and it was fantastic. Location was fantastic just off of St Marks Square up a little side street. Would throughly recommend.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
