This place is excellent to explore Venice. It is situated in a quite neighborhood with everything on walking distance. If you do take a water taxi you can dock at the back entrance. There are great coffee shops and cafes in the vicinity and the staff is friendly. Would stay here again!

Very nice old hotel hidden away in the heart of Venice. We had a top floor loft apartment, very spacious and well decorated. We also had a sunroof that opened and gave us a breathtaking view of Venice. The staff were great and helpful. The hotel is a bit hard to find but worth it.

Booked a trip to Venice. Jade Hawkins of Travel Councillors put the whole thing together. Flight, water taxi transfer and this gem of a hotel. What a fantastic building. Our room was massive (upgrade as our agent had contacted the hotel to mention a special birthday) Staff were really helpful and we found it easy to navigate to all the...

Stayed here for three nights and the service is very minimal, but very agreeable. The rooms are clean and overlook the canal. There is a simple but filling breakfast buffet included. The only thing that you should be aware of is that they will offer to give you a "free" water taxi ride to a Murano glass factory on a...

We stayed for three nights in May in one of the rooms at the back over looking the canal. beware the church clock that strikes at 0700 and marked "48 O'clock" ( how that works don't know) It was enormous, with a large double bed consisting of two smaller mattress placed together ( no problem there). the room itself was...

The hotel is located 10 min walk from St Marcos square and 5 min from the a vaporetto station, quite convenient to travel around and going to the airport . It has a lovely garden, would be a great idea to get some wine and enjoy it there one evening. The place is full of character and the breakfast is...

This palazzo is simply beautiful. It has a magical, timeless air about it. You enter through a big green gate across cobbles. Our room was on the ground floor facing the garden and was clean, well maintained and extremely comfortable with complimentary toiletries and plenty of towels. It is quiet as there are only a few rooms and at times...

First, the location is excellent, on a wonderful side street, close to everything, but quiet and not touristy. Second, the staff is very good, attentive and helpful. However, the cons far outweigh the pros, and after staying 6 nights, I'm truly baffled by the higher ratings. The rooms are dingy, the furniture broken (1 chair was held together by tape),...

Really love this hotel, full of charm. It has no restaurant or bar, which doesn't matter at all because the city is full of them and it just encourages you to get out and explore them. (They do supply breakfast if you want it though). The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The receptionist was the most helpful and friendly that...

We stayed for 2 nights in April. It's a beautiful building full of character. It's easy to walk to the main sites of Venice. The staff we very friendly and gave us good recommendations for places to eat. We enjoyed sitting on the quiet terrace in the early evening with a glass of prosecco- there are only 8 rooms but...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
