Don't let the small reception area fool you. Our room was huge- approx. 20 feet square! My husband and I just returned from a 7 night stay at the Hotel Dona Palace in Venice, Italy. We couldn't have been happier with the hotel. The staff was courteous, friendly and very helpful. Everyone spoke excellent English which really helped. Our room...

We arrived directly at the hotel by water taxi from the airport, a spectacular ride in the canals of Venice. We stayed 2 nights (September 15 and 16, 2010) at this clean hotel. The location was very convenient only 2 minutes from Piazza San Marco. We could easily walk to discover the main interesting sites (Rialto Bridge, Accademia Bridge, Grand...

The Dona Palace is a very pleasant hotel very near St. Mark's square. Stayed for four nights in early October in junior suite 23 (talking the recommendation from another reviewer). The room was very spacious and clean with a large bath including whirlpool tub and shower. Immediately outside the room is a common area where breakfast is served and at...

A smaller hotel very close to the 'action' - but Venice is entirely walkable. Room was average and hotel had standard fare - European breakfast that was more than adequate.

We were booked into the sister hotel the All 'Angelo but on arrival we were upgraded to the Dona Palace. From the moment of check in until departure we were made to feel special by all of the reception staff. The hotel is an example of superlative customer service. We were located in room 51 at the top of the...

We arrived in Venice many hours later than planned due to the fact that we were robbed on the train from Rome. We arrived in Venice at about 2:00 am on a Friday night and eventually figured out which boat to take to get to San Marco. Once we got off the boat we had a difficult time finding the...

A clean, attractive and well-located hotel tucked away behind St Marks Square, but with a quiet ambience and attractive good-sized rooms. We stayed in a junior suite which was roomy and comfortable. A great central location from which to explore the city on foot, and not too far from water bus stops to and from the railway station and airport....

We have just come back from a 4 day trip to Venice. I travelled with my husband and 5 year old daughter. The hotel is very conveniently located to the major sights. We just spent two weeks in Italy and Venice was our first stop. The Hotel Dona Palace is small, quaint, easy to access-once you know where it is, and is certainly a winner. Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
