The location is perfect, especially if you have to arrive late at night like we did (after midnight). It's a pretty easy walk from the bus station if you travel light, and very close to the train station. We contacted the hotel beforehand and was told that someone would let us in even though they don't usually have front desk...

The hotel you can almost say adjacent to the Venezia train station. You get water bus and all other commutation options just infront of the hotel. Overall a happening place with lots of restaurents and shops near by to the hotel. Also you get a nice breakfast and friendly staff. Any other hotel you select inside the heart of the...

When I checked in I had been up for about 36 hours and was ready for some sleep. The room I stayed in was the absolute worse room I have ever stayed in. The ceilings were about 5 feet high and lower in most of the room and doorways. I could not even stand up in the bathroom and hit...

Hotel was suprisingly nice considering on how it looked outside. Its was just a 5 min walk from the main train station. It has a beautiful venitian style and decor. Plus the visitor bathroom has a fishtank sink which is pretty cool. The rooms were fairly small, we booked a double and a single for a friend and were they...

It's clean but old and dusty. I think that's pretty normal in Venice though. We liked the location since it was very close to the train station and just across the bridge of a local quartier where locals can still be found which it's very unusual in venice! The receptionist was extremely rude though which was a bit annoying.

Very nice reception area. The staff on the desk were not particularly polite or interested but functional. Room was small and stuffy and the aircon was only controlled by the front desk for some reason. Also when it was on it was very loud. Breakfast was adequate but not amazing. Nice croissants and the serving staff very good. Overall not...

Stayed here one night as a stop off whilst interrailing, as it was a good price for such a central location (2 mins walk from the train station). Hotel lobby and corridor is far nicer than expected from the outside, actually quite impressive as we walked down the corridor to leave our luggage as we couldn't check in until a...

Very close to the train station, which was what we wanted. Not terribly fancy, but it's on the Grand Canal, and an easy walk to the train and the canal launches/tours. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and it's not bad if you can get past the "early Bordello" decor. (I suppose it's a nod to the "Belle Epoque" of...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
