We arrived in Venice on the Monday before Christmas and were greeted by an agent who showed us the appartment. When we asked her some questions about grocery shopping, she told us that she does not live in Venice, so she was no more helpful than an American guildebook we read in advance. The apartment location is perfect: it is...

Our 2 families (3 adults and 4 teenagers) stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect! The decor is gorgeous and really enhanced our Venetian experience as it added some old-world glamour and charm! The location was perfect .. so close to the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Sq. There was so much room for all to relax and...

Lovely, spacious apartment, in tradition furnishing. Met by the owner, who guided us there. Would be difficult to find your way among the alleys if didn't know where you were going first time. Decor a little tired looking, but didn't detract from the experience. Convenient to St Marks Square and the Rialto. On forth floor, but a small lift is...

We stayed here 8 years ago, when it was a great B&B. Now it is an apartment. Unfortunately it has not been touched since the last visit. It is a great location. It is very spacious and great for families. It is starting to look scruffy though.

Great place to stay! More like staying in someone’s house than a B & B. Amazing authentic furniture and house. Prime location, you couldn’t ask for a better location. Very easy to get to from the Rialto bridge boat stop. If you are looking for a great Italian experience this is it. Breakfast was great too! Not for someone who...

This apartment is beautiful, and Andrea is a very accommodating host. Carefully follow his instructions, as navigating around Venice is not done easily, and make sure to call him before your arrival. The apartment is furnished beautifully, and there is a high attention to detail in its decor that is true to Venice. We stayed in the White Room, which...

This B&B is really on th spot, in the middle or almost next door to all attractions of Venice. Charming rooms, nice hosts and accomodation. The mornings were not very romantic when motor ships, without singing Gondoliere but with yelling drivers, curved around the channels. By he way, breakfast was "very lean" including Nescafe instead of real italian coffee.

My wife and I enjoyed the central location and authentic decor of the Palazzo Duodo Gregolin. Halfway between the Rialto Bridge and the Piazza San Marco, a true Venitian adventure starts right outside the front door. We were greeted by the son of the owner, who came to meet us at the waterbus (though we had already found out own...

This B&B is conveniently about 300 meters from the Rialto stop and down a side alley. You have to pay attention to the street numbers to find the place. We only saw Andrea, the owner, once -- at breakfast, the day after we checked in. His wife arranged to be present when we arrived and checked us in. Other than...

We stayed at the B&B for three nights in August 2012. We are a family of four with children aged 10 and 15. We did the bookings over email and Andrea the owner was very responsive and a very nice and helpful host. He kept on saying that we were guests at his house. Note that Andrea accepts payment only...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
