I've been to Venice about fifteen times and Dorsoduro is my favorite part because it's not a museum but a place where real Venetians live and breathe. So if you want to stay in the middle of tourist hell where you can engage with Germans, Japanese, and frustrated Americans who can't find McDonalds, this is NOT a place for you....

I would have liked to give this Hotel 5 stars but the downside for us was having the ground floor room behind reception which was a bit noisy in the morning - would really have preferred an upper floor - however for what we paid cannot grumble too much. Staff were really friendly and helpful and breakfast was excellent. In...

A lovely hotel which I know isn't the easiest to find but that's the beauty of it as it's a hidden gem! Away from the tourists in the student area and close the university, but still not far to walk to the main tourist attractions. Don't let the fact it's in the student area put you off, Italian students are...

Tiziano is truly a lovely, small hotel in a lovely part of Venice. But, a word of warning, it is not that easy to find it. However, once it is found, it's actually quite great. Rooms are sweet, staff is nice and very friendly. An enjoyable stay is guaranteed.

Firstly, make sure that you know HOW to get to the hotel! We were 5 adults with all our luggage and the info we had was not helpful at all. The locals were even more unhelpful, everyone gave us different directions. Regardless of the effort finding the place, eventually after more than 2 hours of being lost we were there....

Everyone who works here is awesome! They were all very knowledgeable. We were very lucky and got a free upgrade to one of their apartments by the hotel. It was very nice and tons of room. The wifi was great. They even helped us set up a pick up service at 4am to get us to the airport on time....

My boyfriend and I recently visited hotel Tiziano on a trip throughout Italy and this was my favorite hotel that we stayed at. The male front desk manager doubled as a concierge, he was so helpful. When we checked in he walked with us up to the room on the third floor (no elevator here as it seems with most...

We had a great stay - location was perfect for us. It was an easy walk from the train station and into the busier parts of Venice. Staff were friendly and helpful - we appreciated being able to leave are bags before check in and after check out. Room was a good size and bed was comfortable.

As with most European Cities Venice has got busier over the years. Even at Christmas the popular areas are densely packed with tourists and even the islands such as Burano have become quite unpleasant. The beauty of Venice is that you can walk a few yards and you lose the crowds and yet still be captivated by the architecture and...

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
