Be aware that a "standard" room in this hotel means you may have a connecting wall with another room. We could hear EVERYTHING the adjoining room was saying! So disappointing considering all the previous positive reviews. The attendant had nothing to offer us except "check...More
We stayed four nights here early May. It's was a reasonable deal taking into account the high cost of living in Venice. The location is excellent, close to the centre but also quiet. The room was clean and serviced daily. The only niggle was the...More

Italy > Veneto > Province of Venice > City of Venice > Venice > Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a
strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.

Whatever hotel you are chosing, No cars are admitted in Venice. It is possible to leave the car in the parkings around piazzale Roma or I'll Tronchetto (fee around 25/30 euros per day). Otherwise you can save some money by parking in Mestre (the fee is around 16 euros per day) and from there you can reach Venice by train (few mins, trains every 5 mins). This does not depend on the Locandiera but it is a general statement regarding the wonderful city of Venice.
