The hotel was located off the beaten path in a nice, quiet neighborhoos, which we ended up enjoying a lot. The hotel was in fantastic condition, very clean, modern and luxurious. Our room was beautiful, very romantic, and the service we received from the staff was outstanding. My only complaint would be that the pillows on our bed were kind...

Cannaregio is both central and away from the crowds visiting San Marco. Stay at this lovely hotel and enjoy true hospitality. Breakfast in the secluded garden is especially nice. Talk to Nella the Lady in carge of serving breakfast she is extremely kind and if she likes you she will probably bring you an expresso specially made from the bar...

This hotel was booked for us via Railbookers so not sure what to expect (we were on a rail travel holiday). It was like the tardis - did not look anything from the outside but inside - wow what a lovely hotel. The staff were very helpful, the room was quite big and luxurious and the breakfast was excellent. A...

This Hotel is only a few minutes stroll from the airport waterbus stop. On arrival the staff provided invaluable advice for the fist time visitor, including a map annotated with bus routes and prices. The room was a good size and the bed large and comfortable. The room was very quiet, no squeaky floors or grumbling plumbing! The bathroom was...

We stayed four nights at this hotel. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed and the staff were courteous, very friendly and helpful. We were given a room upgrade also which was most welcome. The room was beautifully appointed and of a very good size by European city standards. The bathroom was also superb, the only minor issue, which...

This hotel is right on the water, which is a bonus in Venice, so no walking the busy streets with your suitcases. On check in we received a free upgrade to a suite which was spacious and comfortable. The main bed was huge and we slept very well. The shower was hot and effective. Many complimentary items are provided -...

The hotel is situated by the side of a canal about 20mins walk from St Mark's Square and is in a very quiet area with plenty of bars and restaurants where locals and tourists eat and drink side by side. The hotel was very comfortable with beautifully decorated rooms which contain all the amenities you could wish for. The staff...

A smart yet homely hotel right on the canal side in a quieter district of Venice, but only 20 mins walk into St Mark's Square. A really good place to retreat to after the hustle and bustle of the main centre of the city. Good restaurants nearby too.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
