Mario welcomed us and gave a very descriptive picture of what to visit, where to eat and most important "How to go and come back" which could be the biggest task. Mario let us check out late and keep our bags after that when he found out our flight plan. Can't ask for more from such a nice host. Room...

The location of Desidenza degli Angeli is absolutely perfect, in the oldest part of the city and the prices are affordable. Mario and Esmeralda are very kind people, the room was very cozy and comfortable.

We loved our time here. Esmeralda and Mario were fantastic hosts and provided us with outstanding local knowledge and advice as well as making us feel incredibly welcome. Venice can be a confusing place but having some unbiased local knowledge was a huge blessing. The room was tidy and comfortable, they also provided a cot for our little girl which...

My wife and I had previously stayed with Mario about 18 years ago. This time we came back to Venice with our four young children. Sincere thanks to Mario for making our stay so smooth and enjoyable. We really appreciated the advice you gave us before our arrival and all the warmth and care you showed during our stay, not...

Venice is a bit of a maze when you leave the boat. We were met at the boat stop by the owner which helped us a lot the first day and thereafter we soon learned that finding your way litterally means "finding", don't try to follow a map, just go. We had a good week in Venice and the small...

We booked for two nights in this on-line find. Arriving at the water bus stop, as we were directed, our host met us within 10 minutes, and guided us through the labyrinth to his small hotel. On the way, he pointed out landmarks and reference points, that proved valuable through our stay. On checking in, he provided information and suggestions...

After finding the place that is well hidden in the Venetian maze (do accept the pick-up:)) we spent four quiet nights. The rooms are tastefully furnished and very clean and Esmeralda and Mario are helpful both with tipps on how to spend your day and how to get to places and can provide you also with historical background. Recommended!

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our Bed & Breakfast finds itself in the center of Venice, 5 minutes walking from the famous Rialto bridge, and 15 minutes walking from Piazza San Marco. We are close to the main fish market place where there is a public transport gondola service which enables everyone to cross the Grand Canal for 2 euros per person. Our home is located in one of the oldest areas of Venice, where most houses are from the 13th century. Indeed Venetians used to leave originally in Torcello island, and then decided from the 8th century to move from the island of Torcello, more exposed to the Barbars invasions, to settle in the current Rialto area. Esmeralda and Mario, the owners who personally attend all guests during check-in, check-out and breakfast time, will answer all your questions and help you take most advantage of your stay in Venice. ... more   less
