Great place to stay a short walk from San Marco Square but away from the touristy areas. One of the hosts, Marco, was especially helpful in providing us recommendations for restaurants, preparing an excellent homemade breakfast each morning, and letting us leave our luggage for a short while after checking out. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Located slightly off the beaten path in the Castello district, this 6 room B & B is clean and very private. We had a room overlooking the canal, and it was very quiet. The rooms a small, but well furnished and the breakfast is first rate. Very friendly and helpful staff.

We chose the Ca' Furlan because of the positive reviews, the fact that breakfast was included and the location - we were not disappointed. We arrived in Venice via the airport shuttle bus to Piazzale Roma then the water bus round to San Zaccaria. Following the map we easily found Ca' Furlan (a ten minutes walk) greeted by the lovely...

The B&B is a brief 15-20 min walk from St. Mark's Square. We were kindly emailed directions to the B&B, which was really helpful as finding your way around Venice takes a few days to master. As we were travelling light, we opted to take the Alilaguna (water bus) from the airport (27EUR each, for the return ticket, 1/2 the...

We spent two nights at the lovely Ca' Furlan in October in a Deluxe Double Room with a Canal View. Venice is expensive, but we were able to save a little by paying in advance. We arrived in the morning and were delighted to find that our room was ready. While our room was very small, the bathroom was roomy,...

We thoroughly enjoyed our two-night stay at this charming B&B. The location is excellent and our hostess was very friendly and gave us good advice about seeing the sights. The breakfasts were delicious and the rooms with canal views were perfect. A great way to visit Venice! Tip-get off at the Arsenale water bus stop instead of Zaccaria to avoid...

This is THE place to stay when in Venice. The entire staff is extremely courteous, the room was perfect, and the location is a 10 minute walk from St. Mark's Square. There are a few great restaurants close by to choose from (try Johnny's - it's excellent), as well as a laundry service and a bank with a secure ATM...

This bed and breakfast was outstanding! The rooms were large for European standards, clean, and had comfortable beds. Breakfast was great. Fresh fruit, pastries, cereals, breads and fresh squeezed orange juice. You can request eggs made any style. The location is about a 5 minute walk to St. Marks square. The area is quiet at night. It is a nice...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
