Arrived at this hotel out of hours, you then collect your keys from a man in the car park. We were going on a cruise the following day and the location was ideal and across the road from the people mover, we have a room on the top floor so carrying the suitcases up the small staircase was hard work...

Parking sucks in Italy like everywhere so this place is an awesome hotel kinda close for walking and just a great place for breakfast and sleep. Real deal: 10-15 min walk to Venice centro-on the bus route, but quieter than you think, awesome breakfast to do what you want- actually if you have a room looking over the bus stop...

We took a cab to the front door which is at the main bus stop in Venice. The Hotel is right in the same circle and was very convenient to not only walk about Venice, but to walk or to get on the people mover to the Cruise Terminal. The room was large enough for our two kids and us...

We chose this hotel due to its proximity to the people mover. But I didnt realize it was just a 10 second walk across the street.. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly. The room was very spacious but the bed wasnt the most comfortable bed I have slept on.. That may be the only negative point that we have...

Most people stay a day or three in Venice before a cruise - this wasn't possible for us, but we were able to tack on one extra day after disembarkation. Was glad to find a hotel that required we lug our bags over exactly zero bridges! Our arrival at the hotel was at around 9am - much too early to...

We chose this hotel for its proximity to the people mover, but didn't expect it to be as wonderful as it was. The room was very clean and spacious. Although it was on the 3rd floor and a walk-up, our bags were carried up and down again by their amazing staff. There is also another building with an elevator, if...

Ca Doge Hotel is a perfect choice for those overnighting before joining their cruise ship. It is within 50 metres of the People Mover and close to any number of restaurants. The staff we met on arrival were great - very helpful with dining suggestions and local knowledge. Rooms are small (what's new in Venice ??!!}, but they are clean,...

Although the he hotel was overall fine, we booked it specifically for the included parking. On leaving, we were charged an extra £50! (£25 per day )The reason given was that we didn't book with them directly!! Reading the small print, they only charge 20 euros a day for non residents!

I stayed at Ca Doge recently and I would say it is a distinctively average accommodation. Upon arrival check in was quick and there was a friendly staff member at reception. I was immediately informed that the carpark was still chargeable (although discounted) I think if I knew this I would have probably chosen elsewhere. The room was clean, but...

Extremely low price/performance ratio. Very cold room. A/C heater couldn't keep up. Biggest problem was noise from upper room, where ceiling wooden beams creak with every step they make. Someone must have walked 10 km that night and kept us cold and awake all night. I guess they were cold too.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
