Pros: Location is perfect, in the centre of Venice and is only a 10 minute walk to the world renowned St Marks square and for the price you will struggle to find anything else within the price range. The male receptionist (I didn't catch his name) was really lovely and very helpful. The hotel is very close to Gondola transport...

Very authentic, charming guest house, room we stayed in was small, but it suited us perfect. It was very difficult to find as its literally just a door and we must have walked past it several times. It stands alone from the main hotel which once you find the guest house, you then have to go and find the main...

Great location! Directions for finding it and the checkIn location were clear and easy to understand. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. We loved the windows that opened to the street. Some street noise but it didn't keep us awake. We were very pleased with this hotel.

Room was very clean and room was very spacious. The room was exactly what we requested and expected. Check in process was at different hotel, but it was fast and easy. I would recommend it, location was excellent.

San lio is an excellent tourist house, it is extremely clean, situated in a great spot, fantastic restaurants round about . The only thing was they had no kettle in the room but you can get coffee or hot chocolate in the morning from 7.30. 5 minutes walk to St Marks Square and St Marks Cathedral.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The location was perfect for us. The room was spotless (room 104) the bed was comfortable. My friend slept on the fold down bed which she says was absolutely fine. The shower worked well. It would have been nice if there was a kettle in the room but there were coffee facilities in the...

Room clean and big by Venice standards. But checking in is at a twin hotel a complicated distance away. There were no drinking glasses in the bathroom. And no staff presence in hotel. Otherwise we'll situated off Rialto if you follow the map carefully. A very pleasant part of Venice.

I was worried about this hotel after looking at some of the reviews, however, there was no need to worry. The room was nice and spacious. Room was clean and bathroom was just what is required. The location is perfect, 10 min work from San Marco square and 2 min from the goal to bridge. I booked without breakfast included,...

After a long day of walking you want to come back to a clean and comfortable room, which is something we did not get from our room. Carved names on the wall, punch holes, dirty walls, stained sheets etc. etc etc. Try booking a hotel room that will enhance your stay in Venice not diminish it!!! Very unfortunate, the photos...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
