Stayed here for 4 nights in October 2015, our second stay at this property. As others have stated, this is a family run b&b rather than a luxurious 5-star hotel, however everything was close to perfect again - the friendly reception, the spacious and comfortable room, the tasty breakfast, the central but quiet location. The bedroom on the first floor...

The trip to Venice was part of a special Anniversary trip and staying at Oltre il Gardino made it extra special. Everything everyone else people says is true. 15 minute walk from the Bus drop off from the airport or 10 minutes from the train station. All the main sites within an easy walk with a good map. This six...

My wife and I greatly enjoyed our 4-night stay with the warm, welcoming staff of Oltre Il Giardino -- Lorenzo, Emanuele, Ilaria and very friendly others whose names we did not learn. In intensely crowded Venice, Oltre provides peaceful surroundings in an elegant courtyard setting. The first floor, garden-side suite we occupied has been carefully furnished. It is enhanced by...

We stayed at this hotel in july for 4 nights ! This charming little B&B is located in San Polo - not very touristy yet conveniently located ! Closer to Realto bridge than to San Marco Plaza - but I had a great time walking the little alley way - a great way to explore Venice on foot ! If...

This is a boutique hotel which appears to have been a large family home at one point which has been converted into a small hotel. It is stil furnished with antique furniture and paintings, presumably from the old family home, which adds charm. We had a spacious room and the bathroom was great - tub, shower, spacious, and in contemporary...

In June 2015 we stayed for 6 nights in the OdG. It is between a hotel and a B&B. Only 6 rooms, so very personal. The situation is quiet and also easy to reach from the Piazzale Roma, where the bus stops from the airport. When it is dark at night the small streets in Venice are less easy to...

I echo all the comments made by other reviewers. This gem of a hotel cannot be faulted. It is an oasis of calm. Quiet as a monastery, with its beautiful sanctuary of a garden, convenient location and delightful, helpful staff. Excellent breakfast too! We'll be back.

This is a fabulous small boutique hotel tucked away from the crowds near the Scuola San Rocco. The neighborhood was full of young families and very few tourists. We were in the garden suite which was very large and nicely appointed on a quiet canal. The service was excellent as was the breakfast. I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

Really outstanding stay. We went to Venice to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and chose Oltre Il Giardino because of it's romantic reputation. We were not disappointed. Absolutely fantastic place - very comfortable and lovely setting. We had a suite in the annexe; which was great with views onto the little canal next to the hotel. Lorenzo and the team...

Stayed here for four nights last week, as a treat for my partner's 50th. Did a lot of research and so glad we picked Oltre il Giardino. The best aspects, the wonderful service, the central location yet away from the crowds. Highly recommend.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The house, which once belonged to Alma Mahler, the composer's widow who lived there in the 1920's, lies next to a small canal just a stone’s throw from the Church of the Frari, has now been turned into an exclusive but homely retreat. This enchanting place in the hearth of Venice offers something unique to those visiting the city. Our guests will feel that they have really found a home away from home. ... more   less
