Everything as we expected, twin beds prepared as we had requested before arriving. Room good, very clean, although it was a bit noisy in evening. Breakfast lovely, lots of hot and cold choices and brilliant coffee replenished as requested.

This is a beautiful historic hotel superbly located on the Grand Canal. Excellent breakfast, great amenities but unfortunately no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We had a window on to the Grand Canal and it was just unbelievably gorgeous.

We knew this would be special when we alighted from the water taxi straight through the entrance to the hotel from the Grand Canal. Most confortable rooms in an atavistic environment. Warm and inviting staff make the place a mist pleasurable place to stay. The food is excellent. The waiters very experienced and very friendly. Sit outside by the Grand...

First, our room was great. Very historic, large and luxurious. Great staff, also. They were there for anything that we needed and were very accommodating. The only negatives were very slow wi-fi, the breakfast was pretty basic, and the air conditioning didn't seem to be controlled by the in-room controls. We were too hot and had to sleep with the...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
