We did the "trifecta" (Rome/Florence/Venice) on our first visit to Italy, and this hotel in Venice did not disappoint. A beautiful palace with well-furnished and classy looking rooms. Breakfast was very good, served in one of the hotel's ornate spaces. A courteous and helpful staff...More
We just came back from a three week family trip to Italy and was so fortunate to spend 4 nights at this wonderful hotel. I had read some mixed reviews on trip advisor but was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is beautiful and the location is...More
Finishing up a two week trip to Italy, we stayed three nights at Ca'Segredo. We typically don't stay in "old school" design hotels, but this one didn't disappoint. The hotel staff was helpful with arranging our transfer from the car park, which is worth the...More
Beautiful hotel in an old palace with all modern amenities. Staff was amazingly helpful, especially Lisa, who was extremely helpful in correcting a travel mishap we had. Hotel was conveniently located for us between San Marco Square/Rialto Bridge and the Ghetto. Decor was a bit...More
What a fantastic hotel. Location to die for and fantastic service. I bought this trip blind at a charity auction so had no idea what we were getting but it didn't disappoint. This is a palace, so it's a blend of old and grand but...More

Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
