Hotel Palazzo Stern is an historical Moorish Palazzo on the Grand Canal. The location is very convenient: easy to reach, close to the main attractions and at the same time in a very Venice area. If you are looking for a unique venetian experience in the real Venice and far from the crowd of the mass tourism we are the right place to choose.

Nestled in an enviable position, Hotel Palazzo Stern is lauded by guests for its stunning location by the Grand Canal, with easy access to vaporetto services and local attractions. Reviewers are charmed by the rooms' Venetian elegance and comfort, many boasting captivating canal views. The staff's dedication to service is frequently highlighted, as they are commended for their attentiveness and professionalism. While the hotel's amenities, including a terrace for dining, add to its allure, some guests find the dining options to be on the expensive side. The romantic atmosphere, infused with historical elegance and pristine cleanliness, also garners appreciation, though a few note occasional lapses in cleaning service.

Thoroughly enjoyed staying here at this beautiful location on the Grand Canal having breakfast and pre dinner drinks overlooking the canal. It is quiet safe and comfortable The rooms are of typical Venetian style with all you need and the staff are so helpful to make your stay go well. My only one small point would be that the guys serving breakfast were working so hard trying to do table service for 5-6 tables each morning on their own, they needed help as it sometimes took 20 minutes to get food to table. Very pleased with our hotel choice and would highly recommend.

First we wanted to stay for five days, then we prolongated another five days, because it was a phantastic experience with this location. We lived in a junior suite with view overlooking the grand chanal. The transfer was performed by hotel water taxi, our car was parked in garage of the sister Hotel Chiara at Piazetta Roma.
The staff of the house gave us a warm welcome and during our ten day stay the performance was perfect.
The house is a historical palazzo with magnificent interior, breakfast is served on veranda directly at the chanal shore. Also room servive was perfect.
Restaurants and touristic sites are mostly in a footwalk distance. Vaporetto boat station directly beside the hotel. Summarized a fantastic stay with recommendation to everybody.

What really struck me about this particular visit to the Stern is from the moment I walked into the Lobby in the Santa Charia off Santa Croce to arrange for the parking of my vehicle, until we left five days later in the water taxi I felt I was dealing with experienced people with a safe pair of hands who were committed to helping me. Indeed I had felt that, in all the months leading up to this visit as I made my arrangements for my daughter and myself who were on two different trajectories to the property.

We came together; one having arrived by plane, and the other by road and had five blissful days in Venice and that was in no small part due to Sabrina and Manuel on the front desk.

Impromptu diners, the bewildering charging structure of the Vaporreto system, confirming restaurants, which would otherwise cancel your booking, were all adroitly handled by one of them. When you are trying to revel in all the hidden delights of Venice that kind of help is invaluable.

The hotel, a palace on the Grand Canal, is a delight. You can move back into what is my favourite Seistre, the Dusodoro, and be on the Zattere within 15 minutes or dash across to an empty St Mark’s Square at 7.30 am via the Accademia Bridge. It is also well placed for the concerts at Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto (La Traviata) and Chiesa San Vidal (Vivaldi) and the Guggenheim and Accademia museums.

Breakfast is now served at table by the hard working staff and in the Stern tradition is a straightforward simple affair. But the really important point is it is one of the few hotels, which has a terrace on the Grand Canal. You eat your breakfast overlooking the canal.

The rooms are decorated in classic Venetian style and are attended to promptly both for cleaning in the morning and turn down at night.

For me the service, the position and the fabric of the building lead me to believe it has to be one of the very most competitive properties on the archipelago.

However I return to my first point the Stern excels in getting you there efficiently whether you arrive by plane or road and once there is invaluable in negotiating the idiosyncratic ways of this remarkable place.

My heartfelt thanks to Sabrina and Manuel for their contribution to making it such a wonderful stay.

What a pleasure to have stayed in this super hotel. We enjoyed a suite overlooking the grand canal - the vibrancy of Venice's main water thoroughfare right before us.
Staff were all warmly welcoming, helpful and offered recommendations for local eateries.
And a great location, just across the canal and a decent stroll from the main tourism areas around the Piazza San Marco. Close to everything but feeling more part of the 'real' city.
Would definitely stay again.

I absolutely loved this hotel! The junior suite with a canal view is just stunning: high ceilings, big tiled bathroom, plenty of space, and an incredible view of the Grand Canal.

The hotel staff, especially Angela, are exceptionally helpful and accommodating. They arranged a private boat transfer from the train station when we arrived, made restaurant reservations in advance, and even packed a breakfast box for us when we had to leave at 3:30am to catch our flight home.

The hotel is perfectly located in Dorsoduro, away from the crowds but only a 15-minute walk from St. Mark's. Tons of excellent restaurants nearby. Would absolutely stay here again.

We have just returned from a four night stay at the Palazzo Stern. This was a sentimental return after ten years away from both the Palazzo and Venice. We were not disappointed, the Hotel remains a haven of peace and tranquillity in what can be a very busy city.

The Palazzo Stern remains one of the best kept secrets of Venice. The following is much the same review I submitted after our last visit - the comments I made then are still relevant today so there is little need to update them!

As before we booked a Junior Suite. This gives an unrivalled view of the Grand Canal. The rooms are beautifully appointed with large windows overlooking the Canal. You can spend the day just watching the traffic passing by if you so choose, it is great people watching.

The Hotel is located adjacent to the Ca Rezonicco vaporetti stop - so luggage does not have to carried very far. A very short walk will take you to a choice of very good restaurants and bars, covering the full range of prices from budget to gourmet. Venice is not an expensive City to visit if you seek out these places.

The Palazzo's biggest attraction for us is the peace and quiet. It is hard to believe that it is only a short walk from Academia and St. Marks. Please don't tell anyone!

The Staff at the Hotel go out of their way to make your stay comfortable, nothing is too much trouble for them. They are a mine of information about the City and can guide you to all of the places you may want to visit, and many places that you did not know about. There is a great deal more to Venice than St Marks and Rialto.

The fact that the Hotel has a relatively small number of rooms adds to air of tranquillity - and breakfast on the Terrace overlooking the Canal is a treat not to be missed.

It is great to find such a beautiful location that remains unchanged in this ever changing World.

Many thanks too the manager and all the staff who as always made our stay so enjoyable. We will be back soon!

I thoroughly recommend this Hotel.

My husband and I stayed at Palazzo Stern for 3 nights. We had a room with partial canal view. The room was spacious, larger than I expected for Italy. It had a huge tub and they provided bubble bath which was a nice touch The room had a safe and a small refrigerator filled with items which could be purchased. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There was an on site restaurant but we didn’t eat there. The location was excellent right on the vaporetto line ( orange line get on and off at the Ca ‘ Rezzonico stop. This was one of the reasons we choose this hotel. It was very convenient and allowed us to see a lot more than if we walked the whole time. I recommend when arriving to buy the vaporetto tickets at the Train station . They offer 2 , 3 , 7 day unlimited rides or single rides . You can also get a private taxi for 130.00 . On the way to the airport we did do that because of time it only took 30 minutes to get from hotel to airport and because we overpacked and had a lot of luggage. You can also walk but there was at least 6 bridges you have to carry your luggage up and down we did do that not knowing there were that many bridges . We won’t do that again ! The only thing I could say negative about the hotel is their pillows . They are not comfortable and should be replaced.

Other than that I would definitely recommend staying at Palazzo Stern!

Beautiful , fabulous location , not only on the Grand Canal , but has it 's own dock so if you get a private boat to /from the train station or the airport , it works .
Like all places in italy there are no screens, and the moquitos are out in full force in Sept/Oct if you open your windows for the view. If your room is too hot or cold it may be adjusted by the front desk who had responded to a prior occupants complaint. I found that out too late as I tried to adjust the thermostat and ended up leaving the windows open.
The issue for me as an American is breakfast , included in the room rate. We have stayed in hotels that inevitably have a buffet or a menu or both. This place has neither . They will bring what you ask for ( yogurt coffee fruit ) but asking for eggs is beyond the staff scope . We had scrambled eggs swimming in olive oil .( there was a moat around the eggs) . For this price ( 5 days / 2 rooms no canal view $3542) I would expect a lovely buffet &/or menu . I wonder if the cook quit and some not a cook emplyee was filling in ?? It was odd and not up to the standards or the reviews of this hotel.
I would probably not stay here again as I expect a good breakfast while traveling , not knowing where or when lunch and dinner may be. We had fabulous buffets in London , In Florence and in Switzerland . The room did have a redeeming coffee/expresso machine.

Palazzo Stern is at an ideal location in Drosoduro with a terrazza on the canal where breakfast and dinner was served. One could see boats going by. The food was too good, I had risotto di frutta di mare, every one of the three nights I was there. So good! The staff was very hospitable, helpful and welcoming. On one occasion they were not really serving lunch but they accommodated me and served a really good plate of pasta. This 4-star hotel really lives up to it's standard.

My Friend, There's a HUGE media mistake about this issue. The flood is not a flood, is an exceptional high tide that is forecasted every day. We do have exceptional high tides about 40 times each year, of different height. The one you are referring has been one of the highest ever, and it caused few damages around the town. But damages has been limited! Trouble is that media were showing the same 5 images again and a gain and again... And a very small issue became a tragedy at the eyes of the world. We never stop the service for even one minute!!! So, don't worry and book your holiday! We look forward to welcome you here in Venice. Roberto

Buongiorno! I know water taxi are expensive in Venice, but honestly if you have many bags I would not skip it. Maybe you can try to save something on other services/activities? The only alternative is the public waterbus. Looking forward to welcome you here, warmest regards! Roberto
