Daniela is an absolute gem! Her home is clean and spacious with an excellent location, right near the train and the vaporetto. Daniela told us where to go and how to get there. We had wonderful conversations with her over a lovely breakfast each morning. She is smart, cultured and sincere. We couldn't have asked for a better hostess. Highly...

Daniela at Al Gallion immediately makes you feel like one of the family. Her home was beautiful and peaceful even though it was only about a 5 minute walk from the train station on the quiet side of the canal in Santa Croce. She personally accompanied us through the neighborhood to one of her favorite restaurants and even packed us...

We spent 3 nights at Daniela's bed and breakfast in Venice and were thoroughly enchanted. It was located far enough back from the Grand Canal to be in a peaceful area, and her place was beautifully furnished in Venetian style with terazzo floors and blown-glass chandeliers and lovely art. Built in the 16th century, the building is atmospheric, and you...

A lovely small B and B located in a quieter area of Venice a short walk from the station. The room and bathroom were good and breakfast was great. The owner Daniela is very helpful.

Daniela has been rightfully praised in many reviews. She is a gracious hostess who makes you feel welcome and spends enormous efforts helping you with your visit. As a lifelong Venice resident, her knowledge is enormous. She truly enjoys having guests and even insisted on doing some of our laundry-over our very serious protests. The rooms are very nice and...

Daniela proved that B & B travelling is the way to go! We arrived exhaused and tired from a long multiple train ride from Cinque Terre to be greeted with a delicious cup of coffee, personalized map and wonderful conversation. I believe the most memorable converstion was regarding the building we were staying in. Everything from the age, renovations and...

I could not recommend Al Galion more. Daniela is such a friendly and helpful host. She is willing to go the extra mile to guide you through Venice! The room we stayed was spacious, comfortable and clean. We had a large bathroom (not in the room) all for ourselves and believe me bathrooms can really be very small in Italy...

This B&B surpassed all my expectations. Great location, walking distance from the train and bus station. Lovely rooms. Incredible host. Tasty food. Daniela was ever so helpful and gave us extremely useful tips regarding places to visit and understanding the Vaporetto system. She took care of us like a doting mother and made our visit perfect. Washrooms are dedicated but...

Our stay was perfect. Daniela is a perfect hostess, she is very knowledgeable of Venice and presents the guests with a very detailed map of the city including "vaporetto"routes , places of interest and restaurant suggestions. We came from Paris via overnight train. It's only 5 mins walk from the train station and Daniela was already waiting for us in the morning with some nice snack and coffee. The room is big and very tidy. The common living room is nearly private to us! Internet service is excellent. She is so kind and helpful to explain...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
