We enjoyed our three night stay in the San Sebastiano Garden, a tanqui oasis at the E end of Dorsoduro, near to the Basilio vaporetto stop and to a district where ‘ordinary’ Venetians live. The Piazzale Roma is less than ten minutes on foot. The property is small, more a pensione than an hotel. There is a canal in front...

I am just finishing a 3-night stay at the San Sebastiano. While I like the location of the hotel, the attitude and service of the staff is VERY POOR! When I arrived I found urine stains on my bathroom floor and was placed in a handicapped equiped room on the first floor. When I spoke to management about this their...

Stayed for a night and wished it was longer; the hotel was sumptuous and felt exclusive and special. It was a bit remote from the Rialto and San Marco but was 2 mins from the circular ferry which was really handy and ahem, affordable. A water taxi from San Marco is €60! Anyway if I was rich I would spend...

Very nice little hotel in the Dorsoduro area, located on the south-western side of town. It is just a 2 minute walk from the Vaparetto (water-bus) stop, either S. Basilio or Zattere, very easy to get to from the Airport. We chose to have a regular/classic double room. The room was on the top floor, quite small, white walls and...

I booked this hotel based on the great Trip Advisor reviews, and because my previous visits to Venice had highlighted this as a good area to stay in. For anyone who has been to Venice before and wants to get away from the crowds of S.Marco, this is an ideal base to work from. As all the other reviews point...

Located in a quiet residential area - easy walk coming from the airport water bus - home made goodies at breakfast and freshly carved (I watched her do it) parma ham (yum!) Free computer and internet access. The hotel combines the old and new beautifully, our room was comfortable, and the bathroom was big. The staff was personable and helpful,...

Excellent location beside canal and a lovely garden. Extremely friendly, cheerful staff who were generous with their time and advice. Great breakfast of fruit, yoghurt, breads, ham, cheese and eggs with delicious homemade cakes and tarts. Very clean, spacious room. Easy to reach by taking vaporetto water taxi on left hand side as you exit train station - Line 2...

This is a lovely 16 bedroom hotel near the student quarter (Dorsoduro area) of Venice. The staff are great and will give you as much help and advice as you need to get around Venice. Lovely room , if a little warm, with a really comfortable bed and great bathroom. Dodgy hairdryer but that's just me looking for a fault....

We decided to stay at San Sebastiano Garden Hotel based on the reviews from TripAdvisor. We too were pleased with the overall cleanliness and appearance of the hotel. I agree, the staff (especially the male night manager) were very friendly and extremely helpful. The location is good: 3 minute walk to the Vaporetto stop, 10 minutes to Gallerie Del'Academia and...

We stayed at the San Sebastiano Garden Hotel based on the reviews from TripAdvisor. We were pleased with the overall cleanliness and appearance of the hotel. The staff (especially the male night manager) were very friendly and welcoming whenever we had questions. Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
