We stayed here for 3 nights at the start of our 10 day Sicily trip and it was the start we could have had. The staff were wonderful, drinks on the roof terrace before dinner were great and our room was incredible, by far the nicest hotel room I've stayed in with its super king bed and luxurious decor, we... You can park outside but you have to pay €.87/ hour from 8:00-13:00 & 15:00-20:00. Walking distance to the attractions and great rooms. Great view from the breakfast area. Food at breakfast is very tasty.

This hotel is amazing. It was a noble palace years ago and has maintained it's beautiful character and charm. The reception staff were professional and efficient, always happy to advise my friend and I on places to go etc. The lovely waitress in the restaurant gave an excellent service at breakfast and when we dined in the restaurant, with fantastic... We spent 3 nights in the Hotel Royal. Whilst there were elements of it that were perfectly good (like the breakfasts which were freshly baked and absolutely lovely and the location which is very central), too many things happened to make our stay less relaxing than it should have been. On our first night, when we about to shower, we... More

It's location is fantastic - about 500m from the Duomo. The rooms are beautifully decorated. The only problem we had was that the air conditioner wasn't working so the rooms were very warm and because of the AC issue the lights would flicker on and off.

We spent 4 nights in this hotel and were very satisfied with the service. Friendly staff, unique 17th building, clean room with view on the Etna and the see, amazing sunny breakfast place with great view and food. The hotel is in the heart of the city so perfectly located for sightseeing.

I arrived into Catania on a hot and busy lunchtime, after the taxi manoeuvred through the traffic we arrived at the Hotel Royal, too early to check in. We were welcomed with courtesy and professionalism and left our luggage after some advice from the staff on a nice walk to see the surrounding area, until the room was ready. On... More

Hotel Royal was a perfect small hotel. Built in 17th century, decorated ceilings, elegant. All of the rooms are named, we had Puritani, which was the blue/four poster room in the pictures, we were so lucky! A great shower. The hotel is quite stylish, nicely decorated. A Balcony overlooking the road,(noisy with traffic then the Swifts feeding) enough for 2... More

The hotel has a secure car park (charge 15€) which is essential in Catania because Catania does not qualify for 'waiver insurance' on hire cars. Although we had a problem with our booking for dinner and found ourselves 'hanging around' waiting for attention I take the view that we are all human and can make mistakes and it is how... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Royal Hotel is a four star hotel in the centre of Catania with 19 rooms. The rooms are positioned on three different levels. Each room is named after either an important Sicilian person or period of Sicilian history. The first floor is dedicated to Vincenzo Bellini. A world-renowned composer, born in Catania, and author of noted works like La Norma. The same Norma lends her name to our most beautiful suite. This suite boasts beautiful vaulted ceilings where, following a meticulous and complex restorative project, we were able to maintain the original frescoes, painted in the 18th century. The frescoes are not the only unique features of this suite, which could more accurately be called a royal apartment. It is almost 50m2 and has a fabulous bathroom, like something directly from the fabled Arabian Nights. The second floor is home to the rooms dedicated to Magna Grecia (Latin for "Greater Greece"): a very important period in the history of the city of Catania. The third floor is dedicated to Giovanni Verga. This author brought the name of Catania and of Sicily into the lives of many around the world with his historical novels, names that are kept alive today in names of the rooms of our hotel. All rooms are equipped with LCD monitor, WiFi, and a control panel for the electronic adjustment of lights, but most importantly they are very spacious. The Superior rooms boast either a splendid four-poster bed or a private terrace. One of the Superior rooms has a private access to the rooftop terrace with the possibility to book the exclusive use of the Solarium and the Jacuzzi. The Suites are particularly ample with separate, clearly defined living and sleeping quarters. The Suites also offer a relaxing shower with water massage. ... more   less
