I stayed at Porta di Castro with my sister and grandmother on the last night of our week long trip to Sicily for my grandmas birthday! She loves architecture and history so I figured she would love this property and it did not disappoint! While chatting with a relative that came to visit us before we flew back to the US, the owner brought us a complimentary bottle of wine and then gave us a tour of the lobby & pool area giving us the fascinating history of the hotel. He and the staff also provided plates, silverware and pitchers of water for us when we brought takeaway back to each in the lobby. We had an early departure and were greeted in the morning (by the owner) with breakfast and our rental car (which was parked offsite) and then he drove us to the start of the freeway and walked back to the hotel. Truly could not have had better service or a better sendoff after an amazing vacation! If you love history and are looking for a unique experience, I would definitely recommend!

Property's Favourite Review
We had a wonderful time based in this hotel. The staff are just great, passionate about what they do and how they do it. The room was very clean and kept that way. The bathroom excellent. Two other things make it special, the breakfast and the quirky styling. Also liked that the car was taken away and securely parked for us.

The staff at Porto di Castro were so friendly, responsive to all our inquiries, and extremely helpful in our planning and execution of sightseeing, transportation and restaurant choices. The hotel was steeped in culture and history. The rooms were clean, comfortable and interestingly eclectic. The central location couldn't have made it easier for us to navigate. The breakfasts were superb.

Quirky, lovely place to stay. Staff could not be more helpful. Breakfast enormous. Very close to all important sights. A rescued and sensitively updated building. Our room was spacious and charming.

We had a very enjoyable three nights at this funky boutique hotel filled with an amazing eclectic mix of artifacts and art. Situated in a very convenient location ideal for exploring the city centre. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the owner was always around obviously proud of his creation and rightly so.He treated us like royalty. The room was attractive and very clean and the breakfast was superb with a constant supply of tasty dishes. We will certainly recommend the hotel to our travel agent so they can book other clients in.We were allowed to use the pool free of charge which was a great bonus after a day walking the city.

This B&B is a gem! The rooms are very comfortable, the location is great, close to the Ballaro Market, the cathedral, and the gorgeous Palatine Chapel. What truly makes this hotel special is Alessandro, the owner. He goes out of his way to make your visit special. And don’t forget the breakfasts! His pastries are the best we tasted in all of Sicily!

First, the good. This hotel has amazing service, they go above and beyond. The location is perfect - it's very close to everything, yet a little removed from the crowds. The hotel has unique character - it's very stylish. Their breakfast is enormous - definitely too much food! Now, the challenges. First of all, I booked this hotel through a third party website. The room was described as standard. This room as it turned out was on the 4th floor. There were two of us...the room had a slanted ceiling and I couldn't stand up in half of the room. I'm under 6 feet... In addition, there was no door between the room and the bathroom! The hotel staff offered us to move to the first floor to another standard room. While it was more spacious...there was still no door to the bathroom. At least in this one you could close the door to the area with the toilet, but it didn't go all the way up to the ceiling. Generally, the rooms aren't well thought out. For example, having experienced two standard rooms, none had hooks for the towels. The second room had enough space for the second nightstand but instead we had to use the floor. Outlets aren't in the convenient spots. I really wanted to like this hotel, but while very authentic and stylish, I wouldn't stay here again because of the comfort issues described.

Room Tip: Ask for the room not on the last floor. Come hungry - they offer a great welcome snack.

We had a last minute booking at this lovely little hotel on the 23rd July, due to travel changes, and what a great experience it was. We wish we could have stayed longer. Arrived late at night, the hotel sent a taxi. As we arrived in a tiny dark street in atmospheric Old Palermo, we were taken by surprise on entering this stylish venue. Built within ancient stone the glass floor interior blew us away. Then our room with a mezzanine floor and super huge round bed took us to the next level. It’s gets better….. the staff were lovely! So hospitable, serving us refreshments and snacks on arrival, more prompt than many a 5* international hotel. The breakfast was so varied, a vast array of platters showcasing some local dishes. We were catching a train the next day and were bid farewell with a packed lunch and water. How kind! Thank you for looking after us! This stay really enhanced our visit to Sicily and we highly recommend a stay here. James and Alison Pinchen booked through Gallivant travel.

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel. The staff were welcoming and very helpful (gave us snacks and a detailed map of the city upon check-in) and the host made our day: he took time to park our time himself and made us early breakfast as we had early check out. Very warm atmosphere!
