I've just spent ten days working in Syracuse and I feel really lucky to have come across this hotel. Apart from the brilliant location, it's one of the friendliest and most welcoming places I've ever stayed in. The staff were wonderful and did their best to make it feel like 'home from home'. I've stayed in more luxurious hotels but...

I have read the reviews by other satisfied guests whose experiences were happier than mine. We stayed 5 nights recently in the hotel. Being elderly we were surprised to find that the Reception for the hotel was up a flight of stairs on a mezzonine floor. No help was offered to help carry our luggage to the first floor. When...

The client asked for a suite and at their departure wanted a discount; they stayed 5 nights and if they had some problem why only at the payment and not before? The only reason of this notice is due to their cheese-paring.

I had an excellent experience at hotel Gran Bretagna. The staff are exceedingly kind and helpful and the rooms are comfortable and clean. This was the perfect place for me to bring my students during our study abroad trip in Italy and I plan to stay there again in future years.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hotel Gran Bretagna. The location in the heart of Ortygia is perfect for seeing the most beautiful and historical parts of Syracuse. Our room was large, pretty and comfortable, with a good wireless internet connection. Best of all, the staff were extremely helpful. They carried our heavy suitcases up the stairs, gave us...

Stayed 4 nights. Location was excellent (close to all the car rental returns). Everything else (room, breakfast, staff, etc.) was neither outstanding nor a problem. No problems with anything in the room other than we were up several long flights of stairs. Ask for the first floor.

My wife and I arrived prepared to stay here for almost a week. It had come highly recommended by one of the travel guides we carried. We checked in and asked if there was Wifi. We were told yes. We went to our large room which looked out over a very noise street with a lot of automobile traffic. The...

A hotel where we had made reservations was a total disaster and we quickly decided to cancel and search for another. After two tries our visit to Siracusa was saved when we found a room at the Gran Bretagna. We were well received and had assistance getting our luggage up the very steep staircase. We had to switch rooms for...

In my opinion, a hotel must meet certain basic criteria in order to be considered for a revisit. The bed, pillow, and linens must be comfortable; the room must be quiet and comfortable enough to sleep in; and it must be clean. The Gran Bretagnia passes in all respects. It is not a luxury hotel, but is clean, quiet, and...

Sicily is full of cities with dramatic names, Taormina, Cefalu, and, definitely, Siracusa. This is one charming place, not to be missed. It is kind of hard to find a place to stay in the historic center, but it is worth trying. On our drive around Sicily (with no pre-booked hotels) my wife and I stayed at the Gran Bretagna,...

Stayed in the hotel for 2 nights in August 2006. I arrived in Siracuse early in the morning with the thought of taking the night train back but fell in love with the place and decided to try my luck in finding a room 'on the spot'. Gran Bretagna was the second hotel I walked in, and I was so...
