The staff is hospitable, but bring ear plugs because there is the loudest barking dog across the street. People that walk by taunt the dog at all hours! Breakfast is WAY overpriced, with canned fruit and stale bread and pastries.

Unfortunately this hotel belongs to that 70/80's genre of Italian tourist traps. The only positive one can mention is the spacious rooms. Despite the 5 star prices and raring, thee following left a very sour taste in our mouths: • Breakfast was included but consisted of tinned! fruit (1 day fresh nectarines were available), stale pastries put out day after...

The staff are always there. You don't wait for anything and you don't carry your own bags. All of the 5 star benefits. Only 10 minutes walk along the river to beginning of the shops/centre. Quiet and spacious rooms. Nice little touches such as fresh towels twice a day and preparing of bed for the evening when you return. Slippers,...

Very nice and upscale hotel, a bit worn as others have said but a warm welcome after some of the other properties we had visited in Italy. It is in a great, quiet location just a short walk from some fantastic restaurants, the river and the St. Regis and Westin. It really is just a 10 minute walk from the...

A 5 Star hotel with a swimming pool (outdoor) in Florence, not many of those, and this one is relaxed and friendly. After an initial "discussion" about wifi charges, the hotel manager, a truly charming man, made us feel entirely at home, ensuring that all of our requirements were catered for. The staff are polite, helpful and efficient and ready...

Great location within 20 minutes by foot from city centre and a shuttle running mornings and evenings with a large pause during lunchtime. Small pool in the garden, with low and deep-end, nice enough for kids to play in and refresh from the city heat. Nice breakfast place outside facing the garden, however it is on a first come first...

Used by many tour operators including ours, the hotel is clean but worn. They turn A/C off after summer is declared over, REGARDLESS OF THE TEMPERATURE. We slept with windows opened wide (mosquitoes let in) just to survive the heat, Room didn't cool until about daybreak. Bkfst was good except scrambled eggs were watery. Location is on the outer edges...

Very expensive hotel with a good location near the city center without a lot of traffic. The hotel is ranked among the "best hotels in the world". When one night costs 220 Euro then you get really surprised when they charge you extra for the WI-FI and 9 Euro for a small can of beer in the minibar. The service...

We had four nights at this hotel and can't praise it highly enough. The room was excellent, the bathroom huge, the service impeccable. Having said all that it is not cheap, in fact it is eye wateringly expensive (circa £25 for two gin and tonics) but if you want to splash out this is a good hotel to do it...

We just stayed at this Great Hotel and cant say enough about how nice it was. Everyone was extremely helpful and the room was perfect.. They offer a car to drive you to where you are going but not the airport or train... but what a perk and the driver was so nice. We walked most of the time but...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
