This building used to be a monastery and the rooms reflect that image. The mattresses were poor and the room was very noisy compared to other street front rooms we stayed at in Italy. The breakfast was good. If you were there in summer, I suppose you'd appreciate the pool (the air conditioning doesn't work anywhere). It was centrally located...

Looks are deceiving... and Croce di Malta Hotel definitely proves it right! The hotel lobby and restuarant areas look great. While it's not like a top notched hotel, it's clean and modern. That's the only thing great about it. Other than that, it's a nightmare staying in this hotel. The moment you entered the guest rooms area, it looks as...

Pros: - Excellent, central position. - Rather clean. - Adequate staff. Cons: - WiFi network is paid for, not part of larger networks, and won't reach all rooms. - Noisy street (as many others here) - Mediocre breakfast with the worst orange juice I've ever had (almost had to throw up!)

We stayed for 5 nights at this hotel, with my partner, son in law, daughter and grandson aged 3. We had been to 2 hotels before this one, and managed to book it last minute. it was so convenient for everything, the staff were extremely helpful, and our rooms good. Most people went sight seeing during the day and as...

This hotel is central and affordable and has a lovely courtyard with a small swimming pool. The rooms facing the courtyard, some with balconies, are lovely. If you don't get one of these, I advise you not to stay there. This is a four star hotel... I struggle with that rating. While the decor in the foyer is good, the...

My friend got married in Florence and booked up a bunch of rooms here. I think I ended up with the best room for the value, and I think I had room 101. It was a loft, with two bathrooms, two televisions, a balcony that looked over the pool and two twin beds for 100 euros! Such a good value....

This is a great 4 star hotel located in the heart of historical Florence. Our double room contained a safety deposit box which was a welcom relief after a very bad experience last time we were in italy a few years ago... the breakfast was ample with scrambled eggs and what resembled bacon (streaky not back!) the cappuccino was magic...

the staff was wonderful - the lady at the front desk was very very helpful. except for this bellboy who didn't offer to take our luggage, went with us to our floor, and pointed us in the wrong direction. the bedroom was clean, and so was the bathroom. but the glass partition in the shower/tub didn't work and water was...

we had a lovely time in Florence and the Hotel Croce di Malta is definitely good value for money. we ate at the hotel's restaurant too, il Coccodrillo or something like that and the food was simply melt in the mouth stuff - they make their own Olive Hill up in the Tuscan Hills and i have never tasted such...

The worst hotel of the last 10 years. Old room, small bathroom with fungus around the bath. Electrical wires not covered in the wall. Dust and fungus around the airco. Very noisy room, you hear everything in the neighbouring room, can be very unpleasant. Elevator constantly occupied. Breakfast very poor, squashed croissants, no fruit, bad coffee. The only thing we...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
