Nestled in central Florence, the Grand Hotel Baglioni Firenze is a beacon of classic charm and historical elegance, as many guests have noted. Its spacious rooms, praised for cleanliness, offer a trip back in time, although some visitors have found them to be dark and the beds somewhat uncomfortable. While the rooftop views are a highlight, earning the hotel rave reviews, opinions on service and amenities are mixed, with some travelers experiencing issues. Despite its prime location near major attractions, the value proposition has been called into question by guests expecting more for their money.

My family and I stayed 5 days, the end of June/early July.

I chose this place because it is a 5 min walk from the train station to the hotel, this was such a relief because the day we arrived it was in the mid 90s F but according to our app felt like it was 102 F, we didn't want to stand around looking for a taxi. Painful traveling solo with 2 kids who are used to our moderate home climate. :)

It is a large hotel right in the center, so yes while the outside ambiance isn't exactly relaxing it makes up for it because, well it's right in the center and is super convenient! We walked everywhere and only took a taxi 2xs.

Daily breakfast buffet was included in our package, a relief because my husband flew in 10+ hours to meet us and needed a huge breakfast ASAP. The breakfast spread is fantastic: scrambled eggs (although the quality depended on the chef I think, some days it was bitter and not very good, other days it was fine), yogurts, juices, white wine, cheeses, bacon, mini hot dogs (or were they sausages), pancake maker, some fresh fruits, lox, cereals, breads, and a big emphasis on breakfast sweets and any coffee upon request.

We had the family room for the 4 of us: it was a nice size room with a huge master bed, extra rollaway, and the couch was converted to an extra bed. Our room had a walk out balcony, but it was looking at the train station and was pretty dusty from the cars and pigeon droppings so we didn't go outside.

AC could have been stronger...it was still pretty warm in the room.

Laundry service was pricey (ie, 3e to wash a pair of socks, 20e for a dress...) but when you're desperate for clean undergarments you, too, will gladly pay 50e and be grateful!

The roof top is awesome and views killer. They also have outdoor dining for dinners and there were a lot of parties up there. I made a point to go up there every afternoon for an aperol spritz while the family rested in the room, it was heavenly.

Large lobby downstairs if you need to spread out, although it is very modern and didn't feel like Florence.

Free mini bar!

Service was excellent: if you call for extra towels, soaps, laundry service they arrive in your room quickly.

Loved our stay here, it was the perfect spot for my family's first time in Florence. The next time we go to Florence I will likely choose a place in the Oltrano and explore that area more.

We had a two days conference in this hotel, which was selected due to its location in the centre of the city (vicinity of the railway station), but also due to its reputation as a place with the style and charm of old (good) days.
The room in which I stayed (no.156) was one of the smallest I stayed ever (maybe I had one smaller in Tokyo) and it was crammed with furniture, so there was very little space to move and also hard to work on my computer at mini desk. The window was looking into inner yard - not an interesting view. The bathroom was equally small specially the douche cabin. So the room was not worthy of money paid for it. I heard from some of my colleagues that their rooms were larger and more comfortable, so probably I had a bad luck.
The food was very good though and the restaurant is on the top floor with a view to the cathedral.

Our family of 4 booked two rooms at the Grand Hotel Baglioni Firenze with Delta Vacations as part of a package... and we found it to be the perfect spot in Florence. The property is conveniently located in the heart of town, only a five minute walk from the train station. The entrance, front desk and lobby seating area is modern but in keeping with the historical property. The hallways and rooms are full of charm and an ode to the hotels past. Our rooms were standard and on the smaller side. Rooms had hardwood floors, wood shutters on windows, wood armoires for clothing. Bathroom was all white tile, nice towels and amenities, combo bath/shower with great water pressure but quite narrow and raised with no curtain. Our trip coincided with a record breaking heat wave in Italy so the a/c was never at a comfortable level... but the front desk can assist with lowering temp from their controls. We really enjoyed the included breakfast buffet and what has to be the most incredible rooftop view in the city - the waitstaff is happy to fix a most delicious Cappuccino. The property's bar is also located on the 5th floor roof and should not be missed for an aperitivo starting at 5pm. They also have a rooftop restaurant but it must be booked well in advance. The staff were courteous and efficient.

We traversed Florence on foot and it was easy to do so from the hotel. Do not miss a visit to Pizzale Michelangelo and grab a drink/bite/aperitivo at La Loggia. We also enjoyed dinner at Trattoria ZaZa, an easy 5 minute walk from hotel - make a reservation in advance or plan to queue. If you are interested in fine leather goods and a lovely shop/staff visit Scuola del Cuoio. They have beautiful, quality, fair priced leather goods - everything from keychains/wallets to expensive jackets/handbags. If you qualify for VAT tax return they will fill out all the forms and walk you through all you need to know when you depart the EU.

We are looking forward to returning to Florence, seeing more of beautiful Tuscany and staying at the GHBF!

This is a grand old hotel, recently update with all mod cons, including excellent wifi, controllable air con, good lifts. The style, though, reflects its age: dark wooden parquet, heavy wooden doors, dark ceiling timbers, relieved by light beige walls. We were at a conference there that was catered separately, so I can't really comment on the food. There was a good spread at breakfast, and the catered lunch was prolific and tasty. I would stay there again. In fact, we did because our Vueling flight was cancelled. Vueling is ghastly. Never again. So fortunately they had a room for us. But the roof terrace with views over the city and to the hills and mountains beyond is breathtaking. You can take meals on it, at least in good weather, or just a cocktail (rather expensive, but the view is included in the price). The service is impeccable, helpful and efficient. The beds are comfortable. It's really convenient. The T2 tram from the airport stops almost outside. It's a short walk to many of the sights: Duomo, Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, etc. The two rooms we occupied both had showers in the bath, which may be difficult for some people. It would be worth asking if there are rooms with walk-in showers. Curiously, the C tap in the shower means hot (caldo) while in the basin it means Cold.

A very nice hotel with its decor that suits the relaxing ambiance of Florence. Our room was very clean and everything required for our stay was provided. high wooden paneled ceilings, his 'n' hers sinks, changing space and even the tablet device provided was helpful. The only negative (apart from the visitors' tax @ 7 euros ppp night) was that the mattress was very hard and the pillows were lumpy. This is all the criticism of our stay. The breakfast in the 5th-floor restaurant was plentiful for choice and of good quality. The hotel staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful throughout our stay.

The hotel was ideally situated near the main train station, which was ideal for us, where we got the high-speed train to Venice, Milan and Rome. It was only a few minutes walk into the bustling shopping areas and museums of Florence and also the many restaurants at night.

Bottom line, would we stay in the hotel if we visited Florence again? Yes without a doubt.

Arrived 18th August 2022 for just one night as we are on a fly drive visiting several Italian cities. Our overnight stay was truly wonderful. Hotel is in a great location, the check in staff were super friendly and helpful, and the concierge helped with parking the car and paying the ZTL fee - a tad pricy at €44 per day but then nothing beats driving up the front door and offloading baggage without trawling across the city or train station as so many others we saw doing.

Room was awesome. Very comfy bed and looking out onto the main square. We were in the DOUBLE DELUXE room number 263. I’ve added the floor layout plan in the attached photos and a picture of the room. Our room is definitely worth asking for as the bathroom as larger than most others.

Only disappointment which some will find limited was the breakfast. It wasn’t as good as the other 4* hotels we stayed at in Venice and Pisa. I’ve added pics of the breakfast

There’s plenty of choice of good 4* hotels here but I think we found the best one. You’ll love it so go ahead and book it

We stayed here for 5 nights at the beginning of our Tuscan vacation! This is a beautiful old hotel! The walls are so thick that even being outside a busy piazza, our room was completely silent. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the maid service top notch. A standout was breakfast, traditional Italian or American, with high quality offerings and impeccable service. The view outside the breakfast was beautiful (photo attached. The front desk was very helpful in orienting us to Florence, and suggesting restaurants, and the location afforded easy walks to major sites in Florence.

We would stay here again with pleasure and wonder why it is not given a 5.0 rating by all.

The location right near the train station is very good and despite the busy square and roads outside the windows blocked out any sound so a great night's sleep was a given. The sheets were fresh everyday, the breakfast buffet was amazing, it lacked nothing and the view out of the window at the Duomo was indescribably. My room was amazing, large and clean with free minibar with softdrinks and snacks replenished every day. Although the roof terrace bar was very expensive it was worth having a drink the night I arrived. The view over Florence was amazing. I would return in a heartbeat!

The hotel is in an excellent location our room was clean and well appointed albeit we were given a twin when we had booked a double. On complaining to our tour operator the hotel offered to change it but we declined having already unpacked and were only staying for three nights.
Visitors to this hotel need to be aware that whilst they market it on their fabulous rooftop restaurant and terraces this is booked out to non residents months in advance with no alternative provision made for guests to dine at the hotel reducing it to a glorified B & B. They could not manage a table for 2 on any of the three nights of our stay.
Similarly in the evening the roof terrace and piano bar were hired out for a private party with minimal provision for hotel guests. We were made to feel most unwelcome by the hotel staff. We sat at one of the only 4 tables set aside for hotel guests (The only one vacant when we arrived) but were told in a very unfriendly manner by a member of the bar staff that we would not be served at that table as it was for six people and there were only two of us.

The buffet breakfast was adequate but again let down by poor staff training on arrival they took our room number and that was it. No attempt to show us to a vacant table or explain how their buffet worked I am used to a waiter at least taking and delivering a drinks order but at this hotel you just have to find your own way. Half way through breakfast on one morning a number of staff appeared but only to prepare tables for the lunchtime service. Tables to either side of us were cleaned disinfected and polished with very pungent spray on materials that were so close to us we could taste it, it was terrible but again the staff were only concerned with non resident guests attending a lunch function.

We sought advice and assistance from the reception staff on the ticketing arrangements to visit the Cathedral and Dome as we had heard these were very busy. The reception staff told us no need to book just make the 5 minute walk to the site and all will be ok. On arriving at the Cathedral we found two queues one short for those with pre-booked tickets the other 45 to 60 minutes which we had to join thanks to the bad advice.
We then tried to visit the Cathedral dome - Timed Tickets Only well done Baglioni we missed it thanks to your poor staff.

In short if you are looking for somewhere central to sleep that is clean your OK at this hotel? Otherwise find somewhere that has well trained polite and helpful staff that actually focus on their guests,

We raised all of these complaints with the hotel at the time of our stay - they left a bowl of fruit in our room with an anonymous apology do they really think that helps?

Dear Chris, I read your review with deep regret as it is clear that we failed to make your stay a pleasant one. I have carefully read your detailed review and would like to apologise on behalf of myself and the entire staff if your legitimate expectations were disappointed. What is regrettable is to learn that the kindness of our staff, which we value in particular and which has been pointed out in many other reviews, just failed. Your reports will be very importance as they will allow us to intervene and correct behaviour such as the one you mentioned. Once again, I send you my sincerest apologies and cordial greetings.

My wife, I and 17 year old daughter stayed here 3 days in July after travelling by train from Rome. The hotel is just a block away from the main train terminal, which was a big plus. We stayed in a family suite - a massive (especially by European standards) 400 sq ft room with beautiful furnishings, stained glass and lots of storage cabinets.

The bathroom was wonderful with a great shower and full tub, good amenities and plenty of room., and the room was very quiet.

Service was excellent from the moment we arrived with our luggage, and housekeeping kept both the open area outside our room (3rd floor) spotless.

The only flaws were that one elevator was out of service which meant sometimes (very) long waits. The beds are VERY firm, but the bedding and pillows were wonderful.

We would definitely stay here again!
