Stayed here for 4 nights in June 2011. It is located on the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. The Piazza was under renovation which they just completed. The Piazza is one block from the train station and it is where homeless and young travelers hang out all night long. One night the noise (bongo drums, guitars, singing, breaking glass bottles)...

Dear Guest, I am really sorry that your nights at our hotel were so troubled and that this seems to have compromised your visit to Florence. I would like to answer you dividing the noise issue from the security issue. Because they are very different topics, as you can imagine. 1. For what concerns your perception of insecurity, I can...

Staff were very welcoming, room and bathroom were very spacious. Large comfortable bed with tea and coffee making facilities. Free Wifi and access to two computers. Very good buffet continental and cooked breakfast. Unrivalled views from swimmming pool area on the hotel roof, overlooking the Duomo. Taste of Tuscany buffet on the roof on the Thursday we arrived, including flambe...

I stayed at this Hotel several time now, for business reason. I like Santa Maria Novella Square and is so convenient when you travel by train and also allow you to reach any central location on foot. The Hotel has good standards, rooms are simple and old fashion, but good size and very clean. Buffet breakfast is really good and...

Dear Guest, I am truly happy to announce that the bad smell issue has been solved about one month ago (in fact it was still there last time you stayed here in February) and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to an explanation. This situation was actually due to some missing parts on the draining system on our...

I had already stayed at this hotel once, in January, in a single room overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella. I really liked the hotel and the location. Close to the main railway and bus station, without traffic noise, and overlooking historical monuments. When I checked in I asked for the same kind of room, overlooking the piazza. It was...

My parents and I enjoyed 2 nights at the Grand Minerva hotel in Florence and our stay was tremendous. The hotel is situated in a perfect location (in the Piazza Santa Maria Novella) close to the Duomo and an easy walk to the Ponte Vecchio. The hotel is clean, well managed and has a fantastic breakfast buffet. The free wifi...

We departed the Santa Maria Novella train station and found the hotel an easy walk in a beautiful plaza. The rooms and lobby area was very clean and modern, the front desk staff was awesome-they booked a reservation for the Uffizi museum at the time we requested and even chilled our Lemoncella liquor for us. The pool area was beautiful...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
