We stayed there for a couple of nights and everything was great, but the best thing was the fact that we enjoyed FREE INTERNET for the first time in our entire 3-week Europe tour. The hotel is located 3 blocks away from the Duomo, very convenient.

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disapointed. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the room was confortable and clean with a comfy bed (pillows a little hard!) and a compact ensuite which was also clean and equipped to a high standard. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. So much...

Just returned from a 10 day trip to Italy. This is a nice hotel in Florence and a good location for getting the train in and out of the city. The rooms are very nice (if a bit noisy on the piazza), the staff was helpful, and the breakfast was the best we had during out stay (out of 4...

The hotel is a good standard, with friendly staff. We had a luxury double room overlooking the square. The square is large and has recently been smartened up in a refreshing, attractive, modern style and pedestrianised, which is lovely day and night. One evening we had a guitarist (possibly student) playing soulfully and it was wonderful to leave our bedroom...

An above average city centre hotel with absolutely charming and helpful staff. Rooms were a really good size, clean and relatively up to date. The hotel is superbly situated minutes from the main attractions. The pedestrianised square in the front of the hotel is perfect for kids to run around on and get some fresh air which is hard to...

We recently returned from a two-week trip to Italy. We were very pleased with our stay at the Grand Minerva. I had been a little apprehensive after reading the comments about the Piazza Santa Maria Novella and its sleazy inhabitants. The Piazza is clean and the people we saw "hanging out" there appeared to be local young people and tourists....

This really was a perfect base for three wonderful days in Florence. Great staff, INCREDIBLE breakfast, rooms big enough for 3 people (clean, comfortable), and in such a great location that meant we could come and go during the day. The ability to return to the hotel at no trouble was really invaluable when we needed a rest, bathroom, hat,...

This was a great hotel with everything it is built up to be. the rooms are spacious and large. The staff is friendly and accomodating. It is in the heart of Florence so you can walk to sites and nearby restaurants. We enjoyed the swimming pool. The internet service is great. The buffet breakfast is excellent. I would highly recommend...

This was my 4th time to Florence. I never stayed at the same hotel or B&B in Florence as I always found something rather disappointing. Grand Hotel Minerva left me and my spouse with a fond experience. Excellent location - very convenient location yet quiet. 5 mins from the train station and high streets. The staff were very helpful and...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
