Friendly and helpful staff. Good location within short walk of station and also main sights including ponte vecchio. Full use of free wifi throughout hotel. We stayed for 4 nights and after they found out we were engaged recently we were upgraded to a larger room with a balcony! Very pleasant stay

My husband and I were in Hotel Argentina from June 24 to June 26. The hotel isn't anything spectacular, but it's well-located, at just a ten-minute walk from Ponte Vecchio. The Santa Maria Novella train station is also barely ten minutes away from the hotel at a walking pace. While the location is very good, the hotel itself is run-down....

I stayed in room #102 and the room was really smelly, I had to sleep with the window open. Also, the electrical outlet for the TV was broken so no working TV either. never again, next time I'll spend the extra money and stay somewhere else..

The hotel is situated between the main railway station and the river Arno. We had a side facing bedroom facing the main drag to the tourists spots, noise was not a problem with the shutters closed. The room was spotless and the bathroom was nice and large.

I booked 2 nights here as it seemed good value and the location was ideal. I've read some reviews before, but I thought I'm not that fussy, I'll be fine. The place looks old, the furniture and decoration shows that the hotel's heyday was before my grandparents' time, this didn't put me off. What did was the noise, my first...

When I walked in, I saw people doing construction inside, and I did not see many people. I was worried I would be awakened by jackhammers at 6am during my holiday. It was nothing like that. They are doing some re-modeling, but I was not once affected by any noise. They have people going around constantly and keeping the place...

I am divided on my opinion of the hotel. Pros - Nice location, friendly and helpful staff. Tasty and sufficient breakfast. Cons - Old furniture, very noisy location - there was constantly heavy traffic.

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
