Caveat stayed here in 2009: The mansion is just a short bus ride away from city centre and important landmarks, a short walk from the railway station. Rooms are spacious nay luxurious. Breakfast is average. Construction activity slightly mars what would have been a perfect experience. Slight renovation of the exterior would do this place good.

Quiet, peaceful, serene, delightful place to be. Thanks to Dulce and Santiago for their winner of a place. Couldn't ask for lovelier accommodations or more gracious hosts. Whenever we're in need of an oasis to escape to, this is where we'll come!

It's not easy to choose the right kind of hotel in a city one is completely unfamiliar with. Villa Azalee happened to be the right choise, for various reasons: The proximity to the main station and the city centre, the location with some good restaurants around it, the sumptuous breakfast and the charming old villa and pleasant garden at the...

we stayed here for about five nights, its a short distance to the centre of the city (hotel close to busy road but not noticable), a fair walk or short bus ride (we enjoyed walking), the staff were very friendly, the rooms were large, clean and stylish, breakfast was simple but very nice except for one mouldy piece of fruit...

Old villa, allowing one to step back in time to a gracious era. Slightly tatty with age, but reminicent of long lost gentility. Calm , competent, very helpful staff. Ambiance allows one to shed the trappings of modernity, and slip into another era. Enjoyed our 1 week stay, and coming "home" each day was rewarding. Breakfast room small, friendly &...

Hotel - a charming villa with a small garden. On the second floor - private apartments owner, and the upper floors - rooms. All hotel collection of antiques items belonging to the owner of the villa. Nowhere have I slept better than in Italy in Florence in feather mattresses on the beds with canopies and bed linens with a monogram!...

We had a rubbish room (see the pictures if you do not believe me), the breakfast room is always too crowded and you can never find tables, you have to wait for somebody else to finish, and the positioning... OHHH the positioning... well, let's just put it this way: the bus stops precisely next to your bed (don't think for...

From the reviews on this website - I expected a clean and adequate hotel. This was not what was found on arrival. The confirmation from the hotel did indicate that the room we were given was not recently restructured, however there were vast differences from the photos and reviews and the room that we were given. I would not recommend...

We had a garden room with an arched doorway, large room made to look smaller by the king size bed but still more than adequate space for 2 people. Large ensuite with 3 (yes 3) showers as well as usual facilities. Plus aircon. Breakfast can be taken in the garden and is more than adequate. 10 mins amble into central...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
