My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Balcony recently. This was my first visit to Italy and we stayed 7 days. I used Trip Advisor to find an economical hotel but was worried about what we would find. Francesco and Hotel Balcony went way beyond my expectation. The service was superb! Francesco, who speaks impeccable English, booked reservations to...

The hotel owner is a very helpful person and we are especially grateful to him for helping us. The location is good for sight seeing all the area has to offer. Breakfast was excellent but you might need earplugs if you require a coffee, just joking, it is all good. Room was great, clean and spacious. Balcony has a good...

The first impression of this hotel: very modest. The second impression: wow, what a terrific location!. If you want good value and a marvellous central location, you will find this hotel fits the bill. It is within short walking distance of high-end fashion shops, the Duomo, the squares and the Station. Our room was plain with no balcony, the bathroom...

We stayed for two nights in June at Hotel Balcony in Florence. It is an excellent deal and very close to the City Center and all the main attractions. We had a nice room on the Balcony with a leaning view of the Duomo. We were worried that perhaps the room might be noisy since there are seats on the...

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in May 2007. We loved it. A very cute boutique hotel close to everything in Florence. We were able to walk whever we wanted to go. The rooms are very quaint and there is a great balcony to sit on and read, etc.... Francesco was so kind to us and very helpful....

Here's the GOOD News; and there's lots of it: GREAT location. Short walk to the Duomo, restaurants. VERY Friendly staff. Room was small, but OK. This is NOT a quiet street. Although it's a one way alley, it's the main route from Via Senese to the Train Station. We had a front room adjacent to the Balcony/Patio. Beacuse it was...

We stayed at the Balcony Hotel from April 30th 2007 for 6 nights and had the pleasure to discover a very clean and practical bedroom. The hotel is very well located , in a quiet street, within a short walking distance from the station and the Duomo. We enjoyed the terrace during our stay, as we could relax there, drinking...

Good location, a couple of blocks from the Duomo. Room and bathroom small. Decent price. I think the facility could have been cleaner. I just wasn't comfortable. The restaurant right next door is superb.

My wife and I stayed in the Balcony for 4 nights in May 2006. We decided on this hotel after researching all the budget hotels near the train station (using travel books and websites). When we arrived we knew we made the right choice. Here is our experience and impression: Pros: Location is halfway between Train/Bus Stations and the Duomo,...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
