Stayed for one night, based on tripadvisor and it's proximity to the train station. The truth is that florence is small enough to make most locations brilliant, but for us it was perfect to be 5 minutes from the train station, overlooking a beautiful piazza. No more than a 15 minute walk to all of florence's main attractions. The room...

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights in a so called "superior view" room. Well, the view is not all that superior but what the extra expense buys is superior levels of noise. After the first night we asked to move to the top floor to escape what we thought were noisy people in the room above. Amazingly...

'superior double' ho ho! No wonder the shutters were closed, we had a view of an air conditioning outlet and what looked like the staff washroom, this was pricey, when you book, make sure it's worth what you are paying. There are loads of rooms with a good view and perhaps we should have complained, but we're English......

This is a lovely hotel, which is a 5-8 miniute walk from the Central railway station, and minutes away from all the sights. I have read that others on here have found the hotel difficult to find, but it is easy, as you walk into the plaza de santa maria novella, with the church on your right, the hotel is...

Owning a group of seven hotels in Florence alone, and probably still adding more hotels soon, this Hotel's owners sure knows their job well! Having been to Florence a few times and staying at mostly Residenza d' Epocas (or Historical Residences), I had opted to stay at this well managed hotel due to its proximity to the train station. Coming...

The Santa Maria Novella 1 is centrally located in Florence. Initially we thought noise from the street may be a problem but not so. The welcome and check in was friendly and the room modern and tasteful. The location is close to the train station and within walking distance to many of the attractions of Florence.

This hotel was a wonderful little spot! Great prices, excellent service, nice clean rooms. We arrived in Florence late at night, around 10:00 pm- we rented a car at the airport, and with our gps thought we could easily find the hotel. After driving for about 90 minutes, we decided to call the hotel. Despite the language barrier, we were...

It's about 7 mins walk away from the Central Station. The standard room that I had was very quaintly decorated and the FOC internet is a boon, though the wireless didn't quite work in our room. I like the seperate waiting room right beside the entrance and the 'reading room' deeper from the reception. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking...

As I write this, it is my last night at this beautiful hotel. I'm a travel agent and I just want to say that it's deserving of all the wonderful reviews here. We took the train in from Venice and the hotel was just a quick 5 minutes walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station, located in a pretty...

I stayed here for 4 days with my husband for our honeymoon. When we mentioned the word "honeymoon", we were immediately upgraded to a mini-suite with a gorgeous view of the Santa Maria Novella church and surrounding square. The room was spacious, filled with light, and very pretty. The bathroom was very nice, with a huge marble bathtub. The staff...

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
