We left this hotel this morning after a 3 night stay....one word to describe it all...wonderful. Beautiful room, fabulous breakfast and charming staff. A 15 minute walk from the centre which suited us.

The San Gallo Palace hotel has a number of excellent plus points; The staff are attentive and helpful, from the minute me and my girlfriend stepped into the hotel it was obvious that the staff pride themselves on their level of service. The bedrooms are (at least in our case) clean, tidy and well spaced, in addition to being quiet...

We stayed here for 3 nights in early January. This hotel was perfect for us. The location was away from the sights but not too far to walk. The rooms were beautiful, the breakfast was very good and the front desk was incredibly helpful and nice to us. The room service food was also very good. If I am every...

The hotel is good and close enough to walk to most of the tourist sights. We booked a suite as we have a young daughter. The suite had a balcony overlooking the square which was nice but the 'lounge' area was a narrow room with a sofa and desk only. The TV was in the bedroom so you couldn't sit...

Hotel is highly recommended: great service, great rooms. We spent 4 nights here on a city break. The hotel staff are all lovely and very attentive. Breakfast was lovely - good selection of food with bacon, scrambled eggs included. It is not right in the city centre but takes 10 mins to walk to the Academia and another 5 to...

Beautiful hotel, clean and maintained. Nice and courteous staff. Excellent breakfast. Room nice and spacious. Bicycles can borrow from the hotel and this is a great way to get to the historical center. But...wi.fi is not free.Require expensive charge on it. Today, in modern times, it is no longer appropriate. ditza sela, Israel

I have just returned from an holiday in December where I spent 5 nights at the San Gallo Palace in Florence. I booked a superior room for my wife and I at the hotel which was proved to be very spacious, clean and very comfortable, the staff were very helpful, friendly and professional and a special mention must go to...

The room was nice and clean with a decent bed. Really nice bathroom with a powerful, hot shower and a bath. Our room included breakfast which was a continental buffet and scrambled eggs, juices and amazing fresh coffee. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Only negative is that it is about 20-25 minute walk to the duomo which is quite far...

My mom and I visited Florence October 1-7, and I would absolutely recommend this hotel. The staff is top notch. From the moment we arrived, EVERYONE on staff was friendly and helpful. There was nothing they wouldn't do. They called the airport for us when the airline lost my mom's luggage. They also were great with providing directions and advising...

The location is pretty good, far enough from the touristy area but not too far out in the middle of no where. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the sites (Duomo, Galleria Accademia, Uffizi, etc). There are a few cute restaurants on the way into town, nothing behind the hotel. The Wi-Fi was very expensive compared to the...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
