We stayed for two nights. The receptionists are very welcoming and give you all the information you need. The building is pretty nice and there's a nice view of the sea. They also have internal parking. The breakfast is Italian style and very good. It is a bit far from the center (~ almost 2hrs. on foot) so we recommend to use the car/bicycle if you want to visit the city. Overall, we enjoyed our stay!
Hotel manager refused us after checkout: to store our luggage for the day (we were not by car), to use pool (because of insurance). He proposed us to have a room for half a day. Friendly staff. Non inspired breakfast: 100 % the same each and every day.
Very nicely renovated old villa, right on the water - so a perfect location, with in-ground pool, in house restaurant and bar. Sound good? It is, but it's attention to detail that lets this hotel down. Stayed for 3 nights in October 2018, arrived in a cab, had luggage, but there was no one to help. After finally getting up the front steps, we found reception and were eventually checked in. After freshening up late afternoon went downstairs to the bar for a drink on a hot day. No staff in sight. I eventually got the attention of the lady on reception and we got our drinks - finally. This was the case all through our stay here. A lack of staff or disorganisation let this little gem of a hotel down.
We spent 5 nights at Hotel Universal. The hotel staff are friendly and unimposing, it's a quiet place to get away from it all. The hotel is in a lovely old building, but fairly newly renovated, clean and attractive. The rooms are simple but had everything we needed. Great sea views! Breakfast was good quality - bread, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, croissants, muffins etc. The pool area was quiet and pleasant, although the water was a little cold! I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return. There are also a few restaurants and shops within walking distance, and buses into Livorno. We had dinner one of the evenings at the hotel restaurant - good quality and quite reasonable - amazing sirloin steak and cacciucco.
We stayed for two nights in two rooms. One was very small but on the second day the toilet broke and we got the suite instead. Rooms were very clean and modern enough. Staff extremely nice and helpful. Breakfast ok, it had what you need. Small poolarea with a very clean pool.
