A gem tucked away a bit - only a bit - off the Tuscan highlights trail. Ten minutes west of Lucca you will find this small, gracious hotel with very clean, comfortable, well appointed suites in a expertly restored country villa with a lovely pool and deck overlooking an historic town. We used it for a two-night recovery from trans-Atlantic... More

Albergo Villa Casanova is a gem!! We were more than pleasantly surprised bij the exceptional friendly and welcoming staff in a superbe setting. The Albergo has 14 very spacious beautiful rooms with equally beautiful views over the valley which is covered with woodlands. There is a swimming pool and tennis court both very well positioned. All materials used during the... More

A truly special place set high up a hill with views of Lucca far across the valley. Very peaceful environment, lovely rooms and extremely hospitable owner and team. Perfect place from which to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life or one's fellow tourists in Lucca or Pisa. Have already booked to return next month.

We were warmly welcomed, given a lovely upgrade to a superb suite that looked to the walls of Lucca through Nozzano Castle in the distance. We lounged by the divine pool; we swam in it too and generally admired this beautiful peaceful estate. The reason I cannot give it 5* is two fold. It was a Saturday night and we... More

It feels more like visiting in a private luxury villa. Where to start? The suites, for it is suites only, are gorgeous with lots of space, attractive furniture, very comfy beds and superb bathrooms; best to book room with views down the valley, where you can see for at least 15km down to Lucca. The service is so personal and... More

I think the highest accolade I can give AVC is that, within a day of arriving, I booked to come back a few weeks later! I doubt many travellers, whether new, or old and seasoned (like me), will fail to love with it. I'd go as far as to say that if you don't, it's you not them! The rooms... More

My wife and I have been visiting Villa Casanova every year since it opened and it is a truly spectacular place located just outside a small village called Balbano close to the local town called Lucca. We fell in love with the place and got engaged here, named our son after the closest town (Lucca) brought friends and family here... More

My husband and I spent two wonderful nights at the Albergo Villa Casanova in Balbano near Lucca. We recommend this spectacular villa to anyone visiting Lucca and the surrounding area. We loved our beautiful suite that had every possible comfort and beautiful decor. Every morning we woke to the beautiful view of the Castella Nozzano across the valley; the air... More

My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at Vila Casanova for eight nights during September. Our first impression was that it was a remote location and it would be too quiet and far from sights we wanted to see. We were so wrong. With a rental car and a few train rides, we visited Luca, Siena, Florence, Cinque... More

We spent four nights here and it was an incredible experience. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Lucca and provides a great (peaceful) base for visiting areas such as Lucca, Pisa, and Viareggio. Our suite (# 6) was one of the largest and best rooms we have ever stayed in while in Italy. The views are beautiful as are... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Albergo Villa Casanova is the result of a complete renovation of an 18th-century Tuscan farmhouse set in 360 acres of mixed woodland just ten minutes from Lucca. Newly reopened in December 2009, Albergo Villa Casanova is now a distinctive and relaxed, luxury boutique hotel with 14 incredibly spacious suites, restaurant, magnificent terraces, infinity swimming pool and tennis court. The valley of Lucca and the tower of Castello Nozzano can be viewed from the hotel and the area is ideal for walking, cycling and exploring the historical walled town of Lucca, home to Puccini. It's also a perfect location to just relax with a book and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Numerous festivals take place throughout the year. The world famous Puccini Festival takes place at the open-air theatre at Torre del Lago, a few Kilometres from the hotel. Albergo Villa Casanova has its own chapel (see section on Weddings) and several adjoining country houses, one of which dates back to the 15th century. The original owners were the Balbani family who later gave their name to the locality. ... more   less
