My husband and I spent two wonderful nights at the Albergo Villa Casanova in Balbano near Lucca. We recommend this spectacular villa to anyone visiting Lucca and the surrounding area. We loved our beautiful suite that had every possible comfort and beautiful decor. Every morning we woke to the beautiful view of the Castella Nozzano across the valley; the air...

My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at Vila Casanova for eight nights during September. Our first impression was that it was a remote location and it would be too quiet and far from sights we wanted to see. We were so wrong. With a rental car and a few train rides, we visited Luca, Siena, Florence, Cinque...

We spent four nights here and it was an incredible experience. The hotel is about 15 minutes from Lucca and provides a great (peaceful) base for visiting areas such as Lucca, Pisa, and Viareggio. Our suite (# 6) was one of the largest and best rooms we have ever stayed in while in Italy. The views are beautiful as are...

Lovely extremely peaceful hotel ( avoiding school holidays ) at the end of a road, so no passing traffic . If children are in residence it is hard to avoid them as dining is pool side and the floors are not sound proof .. Great sized suites and a room with a view if possible is wonderful Very helpful staff...

We recently stayed at Villa Casanova near Lucca. It's a beautiful small but luxurious hotel. More like staying in a private country house. Rooms are excellent. Very good staff. Food v good but a bit limited but we ate most nights in Lucca. Definitely do the bike ride around the walls of Lucca.

This is the place to celebrate in style - we were there for a 3 day weekend for a 50th birthday celebration. Picture the perfect day starting with breakfast by the front patio which was quiet and peaceful with a breeze and view of castle Nozanno. Then followed by relaxing swim and then lunch with grilled veggies and fruit salads...

What an amazing find just outside of Lucca. Stunning villa, peaceful quiet like you would not believe (slept for 10 hours straight! Can barely manage 5 hours nowadays!) The location is slightly isolated but also easy and quick to get to from Pisa airport. The villa is impeccably furnished, and has a feel of a large house that you have...

What an amazing find just outside of Lucca! Villa Casanova is situated on top of a hill with an amazing view (both from our room and from the dining terrace) of the rolling hills. The service from the owner, staff and dining servers was incredible. The staff/owner went out of their way to make you feel as comfortable as possible...

I am ashamed it has taken me so long to write this review, which has everything to do with the demands on daily life and nothing to do with the hotel itself. From the moment we arrived at Villa Casanova we knew we'd stumbled on something very special. We were greeted with a warm welcome by the owners, who as...

We just returned from a 6 night stay at the Villa Casanova. When we first arrived, we were a little worried because although it is described as a 5 star hotel, the interior decor is a bit dated and not as meticulous as what I would consider that of a 5 star hotel. But we quickly fell in love with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Albergo Villa Casanova is the result of a complete renovation of an 18th-century Tuscan farmhouse set in 360 acres of mixed woodland just ten minutes from Lucca. Newly reopened in December 2009, Albergo Villa Casanova is now a distinctive and relaxed, luxury boutique hotel with 14 incredibly spacious suites, restaurant, magnificent terraces, infinity swimming pool and tennis court. The valley of Lucca and the tower of Castello Nozzano can be viewed from the hotel and the area is ideal for walking, cycling and exploring the historical walled town of Lucca, home to Puccini. It's also a perfect location to just relax with a book and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Numerous festivals take place throughout the year. The world famous Puccini Festival takes place at the open-air theatre at Torre del Lago, a few Kilometres from the hotel. Albergo Villa Casanova has its own chapel (see section on Weddings) and several adjoining country houses, one of which dates back to the 15th century. The original owners were the Balbani family who later gave their name to the locality. ... more   less
