Booked a bed in the four bed room. Very comfortable bed, good shower facility down the hall. Wash basin in bedroom for cleaning teeth and shaving. Toilets also down the hall. Everywhere is clean and bright. The location is superb with a fast flowing stream running by the front and onwards into the Rhine. Good breakfast also included. I did...

Apart from the cost (obviously, this being Switzerland) it is diffcult to find fault with this HI hostel: it's huge but somehow not impersonal. The rooms are small, but well lit and have big lockers smelling sweetly of new wood for your bags. Lots of clean toilets and showers in the corridor outside. Big breakfast room and reception area with...

We enjoyed a family room and were impressed by a very stylish, clean and friendly hostel! We didn't have a single complaint and will come again! The breakfast that is included is rich. We also liked the location of the hostel, as it is not too far to the city center or the river.

I stayed at this hostel for three nights and I really can't complain. The room had a sink and huge closets which you can lock with a key. Both are separated from the bedroom by a door so that you don't wake anybody up when you change or whatever. The shared bathrooms and showers were clean. You can borrow an...

Lovely location. Great to have breakfast on the terrace. I loved the huge window unto the Green outside. I was in a single room, and do not think that you find better for the price in Basel - if you appreciate modern architecture and want to stay in the middle of town. Breakfast is rather basic .

I used Basel as a base the explore the area, so stayed 5 nights. The place is spotless, the cleaning staff seem to work all day. The other staff are very friendly and offered some great suggestions for checking out the area (including France & Germany). Breakfast & dinner were both great; dinner was well priced given the general cost...

I stayed in this hostel 3 nigths and I paid 410 € for a double ensuite. As it is not that cheap, for a youth hostel, I expected at least a cozy welcome. Well, except the blonde man at the reception, nobody else spoke english fluently and having a conversation with some of the staff was a bit stressing. (no...

Right in the centre of old Basel where with imagination you can see trades of the Middle Ages working along the stream, making paper and other things. The stream is a great force and drives a wooden wheel not far away. There's also a very modern museum just across the youth hostel. The hostel itself is wonderful in its mix...

The hostel is modern and clean. It offers a very good value for money (for Switzerland). It is located in one of the most beautiful areas of the city, with houses dating from the middle age. It's also very close to the Rhine river and 15 minutes away from the center on foot.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This youth hostel is a showpiece. The architects Buchner & Brundler signify innovative and modern architecture. New features are combined with existing aspects in Basel. Together with the construction of the youth hostel, the architects were also responsible for the Swiss Pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai. An international orientation like youth hostels is therefore also normal for the architects. ... more   less
