The history of this place as a monastery is reflected in the modern day hotel. Simple, clean , without fripperies or luxury is the way it works. It is comfortable and friendly, with the simple food being of good quality. I was here on business and had a good nights sleep then used several of the meeting rooms which were...

I was here during the long weekend of November 1st. The hotel is situated in an "old" mission house, about 10 walking minutes from the historical centre. Room 450 was not too big, but neither small. It has only one small window which is to the street side. It is a bit difficult to sleep with this window closed as...

Booked into the Bildungszentrum 21 as only hotel available in Basel for that night. I have to say that the cost was very reasonable, CHF250 for a 'suite', and the reception staff delightfully friendly. However, by hotel standards this was pretty poor, very 1980s. Virtually no food or drink on offer, tiny, tiny beds, minimal bathroom facilities and the whole...

I had stayed for years at this hotel this year reserved 6 months in advance for Basel Art Fair 3 nights daily price CHF 350. I had to cancel one week prior to arrival, was billed the full amount even though during the last week prices went down on a daily basis to CHF 200 and CHF 195 per day...

When I read the good reviews, I had high expectations. But this place does not hold up. No restaurant, no bar, no minibar. The beds were of poor quality (only single beds). Rooms are very spacious indeed, and we could comfortably be in one room ( 2 adults, 2 small kids). The bathroom was quite bizarre, as it's actually fitted...

This hotel is really very good, stayed there for almost a week due to business I was attending, the price is not low, but I guess all the hotels in Switzerland are expensive as is anything else...don't expect a lot of room, I stayed in a single room and got a single bed, not even queen, that was actually pretty...

This was a strange but unique place to stay. This hotel used to an old school but it has been transitioned to a Christian Mission that serves as a charity for many good causes in Africa. The first 3 floors are offices conference Centre etc with the top 3 floors turned into hotel rooms. I stayed in Room 550 and...

This is a hotel and conference center in a residential and fairly quiet part of Basel, within walking distance of the quaint old town and river Rhein. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and nothing seems to be too much for them. The rooms are comfortable, and the bathrooms practical. However, note that only body wash/soap is provided so if...

This was an absolute bargain in a city where there are few bargains to be had! Not only that but the grounds were just lovely, there was no noise, the rooms were large and nicely furnished in a contemporary style and there was a delicious and very complete breakfast included in the rate. As if that wasn't enough, the proceeds...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The 1890s could be a strict era for children, and this is when a certain missionary family child, the future writer and Nobel laureate, Hermann Hesse, roamed our park. We imagine it was prohibited for young children to snack on the grapes and berries in the park at the time. But it seems equally likely that young Hermann ignored the restrictions. He already had a well-earned reputation as a rebel. So, if during autumn in our park a red-cheeked apple smiles at you, give in to its innocent seduction, just as Hermann would! And during the rest of the year we will lead you into further modest temptations because we are enthusiastic about our park and want to share this with all our guests. During the warm seasons we invite the ice cream man into our park, and when it is cold the roast chestnut vendor, so you can indulge in these little treats too. And if, as has happened with many other guests, attending one of our events gives you food or refreshment ideas for your next reception or barbecue, please come see us. In our park, a thousand and one such dreams can come true. PS: Throughout our park, no chemical insecticides or herbicides are used. Instead, all the fruit is grown using only certified organic cultivation methods and substances. And if you rest for a while on one of our cosy park benches, you will share your time with many birds and butterflies. ... more   less
