The hotels in the center of Bern where I usually stay were all booked for at least one night of my stay at the end of August/early September. I knew that Ibis was new, so I thought I'd try it. It's quite convenient to the tram (no. 9), which the hotel can give you a free ticket for. The front desk staff were all quite helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet seemed expensive (Sfr 16), especially since items weren't kept filled. Then I found that the Ibis-Budget breakfast had the items I liked, was Sfr. 3 less expensive, and items were kept filled. I'm not sure if the cross-over is always possible, but it worked for my last day. And I found that for what was offered, the price was OK (coffee and a croissant at my favorite Glatz bakery were about Sfr 9; the hotel had muesli, rolls and croissants, and various types of coffee, plus juice and other options).

The property is far from the city center, but there is tram stop in front of the hotel where you can reach the center by 15-20 minutes. Staff were nice and courteous. But funny thing is their pillow, just check my photo. Breakfast is basic, bread, cereals, meat and cheese, egg, waffle machine available, coffee and tea, juice.

Dear Guest, We're so grateful you took the time to share your experience with us. We are delighted that you found our staff to be nice and courteous. Providing excellent service is a priority for us, and we're glad it enhanced your visit. However, we apologize that certain parts of your stay fell short of your expectations. We understand that comfort is crucial, and it seems we missed the mark with our pillow offering. We appreciate this feedback and will look into how we can improve our bedding options to enhance the comfort of our guests. Nonetheless, we hope you had the chance to experience our free public transport during your stay! It would be a pleasure to welcome you back for an even better stay. Best regards from the whole team with Matthias, Director

I had a recent stay at the Bern expo for 2 week as part of a business trip. I had a very nice stay, location has easy access to the city with regular on time transport, very clean hotel, all enquiries were complete with no issues and very efficient. Very friendly and professional staff especially thanks to Daria at the front office for all her help with local information, restrants and area of interests for the duration of our stay, she was very helpful and appreciated by the group.

Switzerland such an amazing country with so lovely ppl, but this hotel was the worst! Staff at the reception was extremely not professional in Ibis and Novotel (both). Whenever u ask any assistance they will never even try to help or assist you, the hosting is the worse.
The girl at the reception from Novotel just careless, she will look at you as you have to deal with ur problems. No Adapter to even charge the phone they can’t provide. We stayed for more than 7 hotels at the time we checked in here and even in the villages were adapters. Okay that’s not the main problem. Business center of the Novotel is USELESS! U can’t download, exit save send to ur own email as they blocking system, okay why then I need the business center?!
So we just sit there for 1 hour and didn’t understand the problem, and the guy from reception said yes this is how it is. Take it or leave it!
But as everywhere there are sone good ppl, who has really deserved to work in a hospitality field.
Staff such as like JANINE & TANZINE ( i hope the spelling is correct) were just an angel and a fresh air from this all what we faced during the stay.
They just solved our problems in a second, that’s the host we’re looking for when we come to the country where u don’t know anything and anyone.
Thanks girls, rock it stars! (Both are from Novotel)

From Abu Laban family.

Initially booked it for 2 days because of good location though we found good professional receptionist but still had to cancel the next day booking due to: Spooky unclean way up to elevators from basement parking. Broken lobby furniture. Unclean room corners. Could not sleep due to broken thermostat. Bathroom door has gap in bottom and on top causing bad smell when companion is using toilet forcing the other person to get out of the room. Bath room floods while taking shower.

The Bern Ibis hotel is right beside Bern Expo and Stadium Swiss so ideal if you want to be in this area of town. It is also only a short tram ride (10 minutes) to the center of town, although in the evening the trams are not very frequent
In the same building are also the cheaper Accor hotel, etap, and the more expensive one, Novotel. We stayed at the etap the year before for 10CHF less and decided to pay the extra 10CHF for a nicer room this time.
On the weekends the rates are cheaper than during the week.
The room was spotlessly clean, basically apointed and small to average sized for Europe. The air conditioning was nice and quiet and the double glazing kept out all the street noise.
The bed was the one area where they had cut costs a little, the mattress was only about 10cm thick, so although it was quite comfortable had very little give as it was on a solid base. If you do not like a medium firm mattress this may not be for you. Having said that, the mattress in the etap was the same except smaller! In Ibis it is 160x200. In the etap it is 140x200 which in my opinion is to small for 2 people.
We did not try the breakfast as it is a total rip off, 16CHF per person.
There is not much in the way of bars/resturants in this area so plan to go further afield to eat/drink.

The Ibis across the street from the Bern Expo center is a good cheap place to stay. It's housed in a tall tower built to be shared by three hotel chains and Ibis is the middle of the three.

The room they gave us was fairly small, but new and clean. Everything in it was prefabricated, including the bathroom pod. I call it a pod because it was a single piece of fiberglass and looked like it belonged on an airplane or a train or something. Despite being only perhaps 4'x4' the bathroom was surprisingly adequate due to the efficient use of space. And it was very clean.

The hotel is about a mile down from the bern old town, so if you can take a bus or even walk it's not too far. So if you can stay outside of the city center this hotel is a great deal and near interesting things. Interlaken is only a 45 minute drive so it's not too far away from other interesting sights.

One thing about parking: they have about 30 spaces out front but it's first come first serve. Everyone else has to pay $25 or so to park in the hotel underground garage. So get there early to make sure you can find a spot. I had no trouble but the second night I was a bit imaginative on what constituted a space.

A friend and I stayed at the Ibis Bern Expo while visiting Switzerland. The hotel is nice and new and a good value. It's a two star hotel, so don't expect room service or a mini-bar, but we didn't come to Bern to stay in a hotel and just needed a clean place to lay our heads and the Ibis delivered.

This hotel is in the same building with Novotel and Etap hotel. Ibis is the middle range among the three. The scenery from the window was excellent. Our room faced the mountain, and we could see the snows on the top of the mountain. Transportation was convenient. From Bern HBF, take a tram to Guisanplatz (yellow line on the map). It took about 15 minutes. The tram stop is the last stop opposite the hotel! Great, isn't it!

You can get a tram from the main station direct to Guisanplatz where the hotel is. I think it’s Tram No 9, but not sure. Just be aware that the station has many exits, and I couldn’t tell you which to take!
