Evey summer and winter we walk in the Blumenthal Valley above Murren and always stop at this restaurant for lunch. It is in a lovely location with tremendous mountain views. I can thoroughly recommend the tomato soup

Had a wonderful time at Pension Sonnenberg. Great food, great folks, wonderful views. Pro tip: if arriving before 17:30 take the Allmendhubel funicular and walk down rather than taking the steep hike up. Your legs will thank you!

We stayed in the dorms, and found the place to be clean and quiet. Shower facilities were limited and mixed sex with see-through glass walls -- nice for couples who want to shower together, not great for anyone else! The walk to Murren was lovely, and we enjoyed a long lunch in 'town'. The staff were less than helpful when... More

We stayed in Room 6 and did various treks and hikes around the region. The owners were very friendly and quick to take care of our needs. Pension Sonnenberg, as the name suggests, is actually hiding up the trails at Sonnenberg. The walk (uphill for about 20-30 minutes from the Murren [Stechelberg] cable car station / or downhill for about... More

The expression buyer beware comes to mind regarding our attempt to stay at the Pension Sonnenberg hotel. After driving about 45 minutes through a rock tunnel (very cool) and around hair pin turns, we turned back to the main road. We were immediately told by a couple who were walking in the high mountain road that "you can't drive to... More

It's quite the walk to this lodge but it is well worth it. Pack light, get some exercise, and then relaxin paradise. The rooms are clean, the food is delicious, and you couldn't get a better view anywhere on earth. Be aware you have to take a cable car to get there and then walk straight up hill on a... More

We stayed at the hotel during a trek in the region and used the dormitories. The staff was friendly and the dinner was very good. When we called to reserve they even advised us to arrive a day earlier due to a noisy party that was supposed to take place in their back yard. Recommended for trekkers.

You can not ask for a better experience for lodging/food/hospitality and the views are to die for.We stayed here for 4 days end off January 2013 and had snow for 2 days and sunshine for. 2 days. The restaurant and food were off the highest quality and although we were the only guests nothing was too much for the staff... More

Had a conversation with Linda about staying in the dormitory room - very helpful and couldn't ask for more assistance. Tempted to go and watch the Inferno for a few days. Sounds like a great location :-)

Sonnenberg (Sun Mountain) chalet/restaurant can not be topped for the food, hospitality, million dollar views of the Alps, food, sun terrace, lodging and did I mention the food! I lived in the town of Murren, just a bit down the ski slope, for 1 year from 2002/2003. During that period the Sonnenberg was my favorite haunt. Steve is a awesome... More
