A beautiful family-run historical hotel, located in the heart of the Swiss Alps in the scenic car-free village of Wengen. Just returned from 2 weeks ski holiday staying at this hotel booked via Inghams. It’s only 3 star which is probably a fair assessment based on what people might want in the way of luxury these days but I felt the room was spacious, comfortable, clean and well furnished, albeit in quite old fashioned pine but that seemed to suit the place. The south facing balcony had an amazing view of the mountains so we could get a clear picture of the snow conditions in the morning.

Every member of staff was friendly, helpful, accommodating and skilled at his/her job. We loved being looked after by them. Nothing was too much trouble.

The 4 course dinner every night was an absolute treat, thoughtfully planned and sufficiently varied with an amazing buffet on the Saturday nights, which was the day we arrived. We had half board and added our drinks to the room bill to be paid at the end of the holiday. Drinks aren’t cheap in Switzerland but there was a selection of very reasonable local beer and wines. We were so impressed with the variety and the quantity of the breakfast and dinner, all beautifully fresh and tasty. The chef is definitely 5 star quality!

Entertainment in the form of a talented piano player who played and sang before and after dinner was a special bonus.

My only criticism, which was far more to do with the snow conditions than the hotel, is that I found the location a bit of a struggle as it is high on the hill up a steep road and as a skier of advancing years I found the access to the slopes tricky.

Wengen is a stunning place with plenty to see in the surrounding area, charming trains to transport you around and the best Alpine views I have ever seen, including the Eiger, Munch and Jungfrau. The hotel has a lovely seating area for a morning coffee with a view plus a bar and lounge with wonderful old fashioned charm. I couldn’t have been more satisfied with this hotel!

Very pretty hotel with lovely staff, comfortable rooms with incredible views of the Jungfrau and delicious food and drinks (the coffee especially!).

I bright my girlfriend here for her birthday and the hotel were very accomodating for the special occasion.

The hotel is very pretty and is one of the categorised 'historical hotels' in the Bernese Oberland. It's in a very convenient location close to the train station and town centre. The hotel has a very nice breakfast, a good drinks selection and a very well priced 3-course dinner.

I would recommend this to anyone that wants to stay in a comfortable authentic Swiss hotel steeped in history with excellent transport links and in close proximity to the town centre.

From the helpful and friendly staff, the spacious and comfortable lounge, to the delicious food, pianist and spectacular views, the Falken never disappoints. A short walk from the railway station (there is no other way to get to Wengen) and the village centre, the Falken stands on a ridge above the surrounding buildings, commanding a beautiful view to the Jungfrau at one side and the Männlichen at the other. The Falken provides a charming, cosy and authentic base, with architecture, fittings and furnishings all in keeping with its early 20th Century origin. On warm summer evenings, dinner is served in the front garden of the hotel.

Hotel Falken

The employed staff were wonderful, but we probably won’t go again.
We had booked a south facing superior room with a balcony. The actual room was south facing with an amazing view, but the balcony was east facing and too small to use.
Every evening on our return there were dead flies around a window – possibly due to nearby cows. We think the staff helpfully sprayed the flies daily – but why did they not get vacuumed up daily?
A bigger problem was the never-ending creaky floors. We think due to the 1890s parquet flooring. Any movement around a bedroom during the night was a noisy nightmare for those below and around. We had a family above us with a baby for three nights who needed attention in the small hours. After the first night we raised the matter with the management and there was a little improvement as the family above tried very hard to be less noisy.
We described the hotel as being shabby genteel – rather fitting for a previous reviewer calling the hotel Fawlty Towers.
A plus for us was no television anywhere in sight.
The food at breakfast and dinner was great and well presented – thank you. But suddenly on Saturday morning we found there was no dinner in the hotel that night or on the Sunday for which we had paid. (To be fair we were offered and accepted dinners at their very nice modern restaurant at the other end of Wengen – highly recommended.)

On our initial arrival at Hotel Falken we were invited to sit in the lounge whilst the manager went to get us a welcome drink. How pleasant. Then she came and gave us a verbal list of meal-times, where and where not to put the key etc, etc, etc. Too much to take in after a 15-hour journey and could so easily have been in written form. This lady did not, at least to us, have a welcoming smile and was devoid of warmth.

It was good to back in Wengen again.

I need say no more than the above but I will. There are two loud dogs that are owned by the family. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the first dog turd on the carpet. The next day, a friend who was also staying in the hotel revealed he had been sitting in the living room and witnessed the dog deposit a second one.

It would have been terrible enough if this were the only issue, but it was not.

1) This is a tired, not particularly clean three star hotel which charges rates of a four star-in fact, more than the splendid Hotel Regina next door. I know because I seriously considered moving.

2) The management is slippery and arrogant. They agreed to a discount due to ourmembership in the DHO and then when it came to pay the bill we found that it was not included. We pointed this out and they insisted it had been included. After some back and forth, they finally reluctantly applied the discount. A very bad taste left in the mouth!

3) The dinners are no better than average. The desserts were disgusting. The breakfasts were the worst I have ever had at any hotel EVER. No fruit. No bacon. You have to boil your own eggs in a frightening machine. Pancakes come out of some vending machine like contraption and were vile. What a way to start a skiing day all because they are too cheap to have a cook in the morning.

4) They never informed me they would pick me up at the station and there were no taxis or no Falken rep. I had to drag heavy suitcases up a long hill and was exhausted when I arrived. It was only downhill from there.

I can't for the life of me understand why this hotel gets such good reviews and has a certificate of excellence. Terrible value and terrible experience. Couldn't wait to get out of there.

Hotel Falken is a really nice hotel. It's an older hotel with a lot of charm. Alice and Jennie on the front desk were about the nicest, kindest and most helpful people we've met. I can't say enough good things about them. The breakfast was excellent - warm croissants and bread were served every morning. The hotel served a four-course dinner, which we didn't take advantage of, but it was only 35 Francs, and the menu looked good. We chose to eat out of the supermarket instead. We arrived early on check-in day, but they held our luggage while we went to Lauterbrunnen.

Historic hotel close to the station in Wengen. Reception and lounge areas are some of the best features as well as the dining area. Rooms can appear abit spartan but that’s also part of the charm of such places. In all the room was acceptable. We were given a room with views of the mountains. Our stay included half pension (half board) which included breakfast and a 3 course dinner. Some nights when the hotel’s restaurant is not operating you will be asked to attend da Sina’s next to the kino (cinema) where you will have your dinner. Staff are very attentive and try their best to personalise the experiences of the guests. In all highly recommended to stay in Wengen while visiting the Lauterbrunnen Valley and definitely consider this hotel for its historic nature as well as the magnificent 3 course dinner.

We enjoyed our stay at the Falken. It is a traditional Swiss hotel, with tons of historical character in a location convenient for the trains and cable cars of Wengen.

Staff were friendly and helpful throughout our visit, the hotel is clean and set in a beautiful alpine location. We enjoyed full board, which was ideal for us as we were day hiking. We didn’t sample lunch. The bar and coffees were a bit too pricey for us, but above average for Switzerland (I think!)

The evening meals were varied and tasty, with choices for the evening meal made at breakfast - which suited us. Our 13 year old enjoyed the pancakes at breakfast, which was continental, not cooked.

Falken is a busy hotel, which we liked, because we got to meet other guests at mealtimes and discuss our holidays. There are lounge areas if a more quiet time is what you need.

We liked it, and would certainly use it again.

Many thanks to the Hotel Falken family for another lovely visit to Wengen!

This was our second visit to Wengen and our return had much to do with the outstanding Hotel Falken. The staff is thoughtful and the details of our stay were perfectly executed. It is always hard to leave but we’re already planning our return.

This is a historic, boutique hotel that feels small enough to be home but large enough for the personal space you need. Rooms on the mountain side have extraordinary views and are worth booking. Breakfast is a highlight of the day and would also recommend dinner as well - or try Da Sina in town! Be sure to end the night with drinks from the bar and visit on the patio or in the main hall.

The location is a short walk from the train station, grocery, and center of town. Easy to access many hikes, gondola, or train trips throughout the area. I’d highly recommend an evening stroll through town after dinner. The town always has something special to see.

Wengen is a very special town and if you details are important to you, stay at Hotel Falken.

The Hotel Falken is a vintage hotel, moderately refurbished since it was built. That is classy.
Breakfast was nice, although if you make my mouth water stating pancakes on the menu, make sure to have some.
Supper deserves a touch of inspiration, especially when the vegetarian one. Nice staff though. And should you be disappointed in sth, just enjoy the view (south) and forget about it all.

The Bernese Oberland pass permits unlimited travel on most trains and lifts in the area. Check their website for prices and the map showing all the services. The best pass if you are planning to stay several days. It does NOT cover the expensive Jungfrau train but gives about 30% discount so will still cost CHF 80 per person. Be warned that this journey in peak season is crowded and without reservations may be difficult to board or will involve very long queues. The pass also does not cover the lift from Mürren to Schilthorn and having visited this area multiple times I will not pay the extra in principle. Go to the top of First from Grindelwald instead.

You can ski in winter from the hotel down to the main ski lift which is only a few yards from the station which also does a run up the mountain. This is like a one minute run but is good in any case to be able to ski from the hotel. Coming down the mountain you can ski straight to the hotel and onwards to the lift if you want.

We had the breakfast package for Hotel Falken and had dinner at Sina's which was spectacular. Falken has a wonderful formal dining room with linen and silver. At breakfast, guests are dressed for their day of skiing or hiking, depending on the season. If you email the hotel, they will give you a practical answer on the dinner dress code. Through the week they have some buffet dinners. The town is very outdoorsy casual. We don't have any experience with the Swiss card, but the fare to the Top of Europe is pricey and not covered by a Eurail pass. If it works with your schedule, try to go on a clear day. The Ice Palace was my favorite. My children really enjoyed the sledding. Try fondue or raclat or rosti for lunch while you are there.
