Stayed a night in April. Excellent hotel in the rarified atmosphere in the Alps.
Warm and inviting hotel after an exhilarating day visiting the Zermatt Swiss Alps and Ice Palace. Rooms are small, average and only a few available. Food in the restaurant was excellent...More
We spent 4 nights at the hotel. My husband and I were surprised when we entered the room. The room we booked had a Monte Rosa and is clean and spacious. The view is breathtaking and the Gorner Glacier is just in front of out...More
(This is a review of its restaurant.) Upon arrival via the Gornergrat Bahn, my sights were set on the restaurant as one of my To-do was to have lunch here. Unfortunately, the outdoor sitting area was full (outdoor photo was taken sometime after the crowd...More
All rooms in this hotel are facing the Matterhorn. 3 stories at an elevation of over 10,000 feet I had an altitude sickness which probably started when I went to Matterhorn glacier paradise at over 12,000 feet but I was fine the next morning. The...More
We stayed at the hotel for one night as part of a hiking trip in the Alps and had an incredible time. The walk to the Gronergrat Railway from the shuttle train station in Zermatt takes one minute to cross the street and then it's...More

Definitely stay 2 nights. That always increases your chances of getting spectacular sunrises/sunsets in the mountains. We found we had one overcast day/evening with poor views and one astounding day/evening worth taking hundreds (!) of pictures. Walking around the area before the first train/after the last train is amazing (and there are steinbock who come very close when there are few people around).

It is quite a short walk and there is a lift to the ground floor of the hotel. Another lift will take you to the reception if you go via the inside doors. If you veer to the right, you can enter through the outdoor area.
