Trift Berggasthaus is an easy if some what up hill 2 1/2 hours from center of Zermatt. On the way you pass the Edelweiss Hutte with it's beautiful views of the city; this is a good stop for tea, coffee, beer or lunch depending on the time of day.. We arrived at du Trift about noon on a Friday but...

We have been here for Rosti after our walk up a number of times now. Pre, and past children. It is an amazing walk, and you are rewarded by some incredible views an Up and down the valley, but most of all by the friendly welcome and excellent food waiting for you. A trip to Zermatt is not the same...

Mazimise your time staying at the Hotel du Trift. The owners are a lovely couple who look after all their guests. I arrived in time for a late lunch (homecooked) and was provided with recommendations for where to hike over my afternoon before coming back for a group dinner (also delicious). The company was exquisite. The views were unmatched. Will...

There is not much new I can say--I agree with all the other reviewers, esp. FatChance_12, DMS1995, SteveT666, busybaker, hallerdi... After touristy Zermatt, our too-short 1-night stay here made me regain my pure love of this mountain region, and admiration and appreciation for the people like Hugo and Fabienne Biner who share their love and knowledge of the area, being...

Trift closes tomorrow for the winter. But go next summer and sample the delicious apple pie. You will not be disappointed! We hiked here today and it took 5 hours from Schwarzsee but it was well worth it. We had the apple pie on our previous visit 3 years ago and have been talking about it ever since! When we...

A really wonderful way to have an adventure in the Swiss Alps. This is hard to describe as a hotel but a very accessible mountain refuge staffed by a very friendly and helpful couple. Don't expect luxury - this is a mountain hut! but for all that it has charm, character, the most beautiful of walks to access it and...

Hotel du Trift is a sanctuary nestled in the mountains. It's a solid hike to get there, but you can stop midway for refreshments at Edelweiss Hotel. The hosts are warm and helpful. The food and beer is top-notch and I promise you will sleep soundly under many layers of blankets. Leave the tourists behind and be a part of...

This is one of the most terrific places I have ever been in the mountains. The views are fabulous, the hiking opportunities offer something for every level of mountain experience, the guesthouse itself is really more than a nice place to be. Hugo and his family / team make you really feel like home here. For a guesthouse in the...

We have been coming to Zermatt for many years and always look forward to our hike up to Trift to see Hugo and Fabienne. They run Hotel Trift and do an amazing job. Hugo is extremely knowledgeable in the local hikes, geography and history. We always learn something new every time we meet with him. Fabienne's home cooking is yummy...

after a few days in the mountains of Jungfrau, I decided to head down to Zermatt to the see the Matterhorn. I didn't want to stay in the town, as I heard that it is VERY touristy. Luckily I found the hotel du trift! I hopped off the train, stashed my backpack in a locker at the station, and grabbed...
