It is an amazing hotel. The location is perfect. The staff is very professional and helpful at all times, they really make you feel at home with their great customer service. The hotel restaurant was phenomenal. Overall I had an exceptional time and I am very please that my son has the opportunity to stay at this hotel during his first year at the University of Groningen.
Thank you for everything, I will definitely come back!!!!

I really enjoyed my stay in Groningen and in The Student Hotel. I arrived an hour early and was immediately allowed to go to my hotel room. Otherwise I would have been allowed to store my luggage and explore the city. I was given an envelope with information about my stay in he hotel during Covid-19, a little bottle with disinfectant hand gel, two pairs of gloves and cleaning wipes. I also received a city map and a bike tour map. When I arrived my room was clean and I was surprised by the view from the 9th floor. On the website I read about bike rental and as a hotel guest I was given a bike during my stay for free. In the basement there was a huge amount of bikes and tools to maintain the bike such as a bicycle pump, and manuals on how to heighten the saddle or the handlebar. The storage was easily accessible with my hotel card. After a day of cycling I was a little bit disappointed by the bike because of its empty tires, but easy fix: another bike key in return and a happy hotel customer! 🙂
During my stay I ate in the restaurant downstairs, just once. The restaurant had daily promos and deals for different menus. It’s definitely worth taking a look at it when you don’t want to eat in the city because of rain, fatigue or other reasons.
It was easy to extend my stay and to expand the rights on my hotel card.
Another thing I really liked about The Student Hotel Groningen are the climate control options in the room; with the ability to dim the lights, self control the heating/ventilation and the given fact that climate controle stopped when the window was opened.
My room had an enormous window and window frame (where I could easily sit on with at least two people) and watch the view.
Last, but definitely not least(!), is the location of the hotel. Close to the city center, close to some really nice restaurants, close to supermarkets, probably also close to a bus station. But when coming to the hotel I would recommend walking (about 20 minutes) or to hire a OV-bike and cycle to the hotel.
I have most definitely enjoyed my stay at The Student Hotel Groningen and I would love to come back in a few years to re-explore the city and sleep on the 9th floor of this cheap hotel with good and young vibes.

Standard Queen rooms are a bit small, but it is good enough.
Room service is every 2 days, but you can ask for a daily change of towels and without a problem the hotel will take care of it.
No hotel parking, but there is a parking just around the corner: it is a pitty that the hotel does not give kind of a discount for it.
Nice people working there and always helpful.
Gym is great. Table tennis and soccer-table a plus for the kids.
Location is outstanding.
Comfortable beds and good shower.
I would definitely repeat!

We made the booking in line with our son moving in to Groningen for University studies. It took us a number of attempts to get the bookings since period was busy and it was obvious rooms were getting booked quickly. Location is very good being near the University of Groningen, Grote Markt, Ikea, Media Markt.
TSH staff are very accommodating and helpful. They are approachable and more so, when you catch a smile every now and then. Ask the questions or make the request and they will help in as much as it is possible for them to do so.
Staff at the commons also have commendable attitude. Very accommodating as well.
The size of the room/s is more than enough to be comfortable. Bed provides the comfort to sleep properly. Didn't get any annoying sounds or noise as well, at least during our stay. They have many wall electric sockets but make sure you have the right ones or carry a travel adapter with you (2 pins circular). You get a work table so can easily setup for laptop use. They have a TV you can use for second monitor but bring your own HDMI cable. Guests can get additional towels as needed. Washer and Dryer facilities are also available at the ground floor, without extra cost. Pressing facilities as well.
Guests can also check on other facilities including gym, ping pong tables, vending machines, and bicycles.
If you book a studio room with Kitchenette, you will also be able to save more in being able to cook own breakfast and other meals. TSH has supermarkets / groceries nearby. There are also a number of restaurant options in the parallel street or on the way to / in Grote Markt.

Spending the weekend in picturesque city of Groningen we selected the Student Hotel, which was recommended to us by friends. The location is perfect, very close to downtown and the hotel personal was extremely friendly, well trained and very professional. Eventually the price was slightly too high, but otherwise an Hotel to highly recommend 👍

Firstly, the room wasn’t cleaned well before we moved in. We have asked about the room service a couple of times and were given either conflicting or just wrong information every time. Because some of the staff members are completely incompetent. What’s even worse, when the service didn’t come on the day we were assured they would come, in response to our dissatisfaction we were told simply “sorry, there is a lot of work”. Thus, we didn’t get any cleaning in the room for more than a week and had to go and ask for basic things like toilet paper by ourselves every time. When cleaning eventually was done, it was performed horribly.
Secondly, there is a kitchen, but no appliances there whatsoever. Technically the hotel does have those appliances, but you’ll have to go get them yourself (they are not good either). Also, no information was provided that you can get those appliances. In the small bathroom, you’ll have a shower with no door and a dysfunctional drain. The result of that combination should be obvious enough.
Finally, it’s unclear who thought that having 2 slow elevators in a 9-story building with hundreds of rooms was a good idea. Also, there are only 4 laundry machines available. There is a backyard on the premises. Everyone goes out there to chat and smoke. So, if your windows are toward that yard then you’ll need to keep them closed.
To sum up, poorly planned, and terribly managed. Since any services you would expect in a hotel are not going to be provided. In the meantime, trying to get those services yourself is only going to result in more frustration. Therefore, if you need someplace to stay for more than a couple of days just find an Airbnb apartment. As a hotel absolutely not worth its price.

We spent one night at the Student Hotel Groningen and the experience was really nice and recommendable. Clean and modern simple rooms. A good combination of a proper hotel and a young lively vibe. The views from the 5th floor are really pretty specially since in Groningen most of the buildings are lower. The location is also very good within 10 minutes walking you’re in the city center.

we had construction at our house, so with there being a lockdown and everything working from home was slightly compromised.
Also having 2 kids that needed to do schoolwork and give presentations etcetera i decided to splurge and book a couple of hotelrooms. This was awesome, everything was nice and clean, the wifi was lightning fast, the coffee from the bar was awesome. So all n all a very successful day.
For the kids it was great; a cool covid memory, after all the disappointments from before.

We had this place recommended to us personally as a nice, pleasant and uncomplicated place to stay in the heart of Groningen. Basically, for us it was a central point to start out on some day trips in Friesland. We thought we would try the breakfast and we were pleasantly surprised just how tastefully arranged the lounge was. We slept fairly well although at times it got a bit lively on the street during the night. But never mind. The staff were always friendly and helpful the whole time and gave the impression they were enjoying themselves at work which is not a given. Price was very reasonable too. Go out there and try it for yourself!

This was our third stay in as many years.
Parking in the underground car park, which is virtually next door, is very handy. Staff are always friendly and dinner in The Commons was great again. Simply delicious!
When we arrived in our room we noticed it seemed to have been paired back since our last stay: no hairdryer, no tea and coffee making facilities, no ornaments/book on the shelf. Such a shame.
Water in the sink wasn't running away properly and overall the room was not very clean.
The next day we left a note for housekeeping about the blocked sink and we left a couple of towels on the floor for washing, before going out for the day. When we got back late afternoon the room had not been touched.
When we mentioned this at reception we were informed that the rooms are only cleaned every other day. The next day we got fresh towels, but no soap, and although the bed had been made and a couple of bottles of water left in the room, it had not been cleaned thoroughly. (dusty shelves and air vent in the bathroom, smears on doors and shower screen, lime scale in sink and in particular on stopper inside the sink)
We were surprised, because we use TSH in various locations and we have never had reason to complain about TSH Groningen.
We hope these issues will have been addressed when we next travel to Groningen.
