the host was friendly and helpful to point out all good restaurants (though they all seemed to be on the more expensive side, just like the hotel...) It is in the very centre so everything except for the museums are within walking distance (including Anne Frank house, where you then can pass several times a day for when the line...

What better accommodation in Amsterdam than staying in a 17th century canal house, in a large, lovely room with its own tiny kitchen and a bathroom with the very latest in fittings. The bed was comfortable, the water pressure was excellent, everything worked! And we think this a perfect location for exploring Amsterdam. Francois, our host, was most kind and...

After reading the consistently glowing reviews of The Posthoorn on Tripadvisor we were shocked on entering our Canal View accommodation. We realized for the first time in our many travels that Tripadvisor had completely mislead us. Room: Drab , small and cheaply furnished. Insufficient clothes drawers, which were inadequately small. Lighting at night was inadequate for reading at the table....

I recently returned from Amsterdam and a five night stay at The Posthoorn. My stay could not have been better! The Posthoorn is a lovely historic building with terrific amenities and an amazing host. The location is exceptional for anything you would want to see or do within the city. It is nestled on one of the most beautiful canals...

We stayed for 3 nights and were lucky to enjoy beautiful weather in late September. The Posthoorn is a charming and authentic little place and the owner, Francois, could not have been more helpful despite having his leg in plaster. We had a beautiful view over the canal which was lovely to wake up to, and spent many hours just...

Location: great location right in the city centre, walking distance to most of the sightseeing places Room: big room with TV and free WiFi but room also dark, slightly damp smell when entering the room, tiny cupboard, noisy but not from the street but inside the house (ie the owner's apartment above). Bathroom: modern bathroom with rainfall shower, however no...

As others have said - the Posthoorn is lovely -Francois is very helpful - lots of recommendations and information on what to see, they history of the building etc. The rooms are great - we had the Patio room - its quite large, with a small kitchenette along with all the necessary kitchen essentials - including coffee and free juices/milk...

Location : It's very near to Central Station...so I was a bit apprehensive when the host gave some tips after booking. Apparently, it might be too near for a taxi from Central station to bother taking your fare. It is walkable but with heavy luggage or if it rains, it might be troublesome. Eventually, I discovered there is a van...

This is a lovely little place in a really nice area. It's around 15-20 minutes walk from the train station so you are just outside the busy city centre. On arrival we were greeted by the friendly French owner of the B and B. He kindly talked us through all things we needed to know to make our stay better...

We had the canal view room which was very clean. While we enjoyed the view it's central location is another bonuses. Francois and his wife are very kind and always helpful to give recommendations. For dinner he recommended Prego and we were most Impressed with the food. We will stay at Posthoorn again for sure.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Housed within the fine walls of a listed historical 17th century canal house on one of Amsterdam's most picturesque canals in the heart of the city - the Prinsengracht - part of the UNESCO World Heritage, The Posthoorn Bed and Breakfast features three charming rooms which offer guests four-star luxury whilst staying in the Jordaan district. The Canal View Room, Patio Room and Hidden Church Room ooze opulent and stylish character within the pleasant atmosphere of this contemporary bed and breakfast flawlessly disguised in the old-fashioned exterior of this canal house. The history behind this interesting building dates back to 1578, during which time Catholics were refused to visit their churches so several hidden churches were built in private houses. Around 1650, one was built in the basement of what stands as The Posthoon today and if you wish the owner will be pleased to tell you the history of the house. The elegant decor of The Posthoorn is boasted throughout each and every room. The livingspaces feature a flat-screen cable TV, en-suite bathroom with under-floor heating, comfortable sofas, free wireless internet. In each room you will find a kitchenette including coffee maker, microwave and refrigerator complete with white wine, beer, orange juice, milk and mineral water. Full continental breakfast including freshly baked bread and croissants is served to guests in their room each morning. Staff aim to make guests' stay at the Posthoorn memorable. ... more   less
